If there's a particular year Chevelle, color combination, drivetrain, etc that you've been looking for and a clone turns up, would you be inclined to buying it even though it's a made car?
Personally I don't have a problem with the fact that this car is a clone because everything on it has either been replaced, repainted, replated, or refurbished.

The only thing that holds me back is when it comes time to sell.

BTW, it's a '70 LS6 clone that isn't cheap at $55K but it's had a very high quality frame off restoration done to it.

Welcoming all opinions.

Personally, a clone doesn't bother me, as long as I am not paying "real" money for it... Sure, when its time to sell, you'll get less, but you paid less too...

I know we all want to get maximum dollar for our cars when we sell, but you need to ask yourself what are you into this for? To impress people? For maximum investment? For the joy and pleasure of driving and maybe banging a few gears?

IF you want to impress people and maximize your investment, then wait for the real thing, and expect to pay the price...

If you want to enjoy driving the car, then consider the lower-priced alternative (the clone), and enjoy it...

No one knows what the market will be like when you sell it, or the condition of the car...

That's a lot of money to put into a clone. For that money you could get a VERY nice SS 396 or LS-5 documented car. The documented cars will retain a higher return than a clone.

If you are considering purchasing the LS-6 clone I would expect all the fine details to be there.

I'm not knocking clones, but in the end if you go to sell it is the market strong enough for a $55K clone when the price of documented cars is dropped.

We have had a member sell one for that money and it was missing some LS-6 only pieces.

Keep in mind a true clone is an exact reproduction of something else. You start adding up the actual cost of each and every LS-6 distinct part, add in the cost of a nice car to start with and the cost of your self described quality frame off and you get the so over used statement......You cannot build it for that.

OK Answer a few questions.

How much is it worth for it to be everything you want at full mark up as to be almost what you were searching for. You are the one that lives with the decision.

How much true LS-6 only items are missing? Get someone who is truly an expert on these to give you a checklist.

DO NOT, and I repeat DO NOT buy it based on resale. Buy it based on what you want. There is not a person here that does not own something that is worth way back of what it cost.

Lay in bed worrying about something besides the loss you might take on a toy. It is your money.

It all depends on what you want in the car.In my case I waited a long time to be able to get my dream car and I wanted the real deal. When I'm ready to get my second Chevelle that may not be the case.

It's certainly a nice looking car Mike. You alone have to decide if you are comfortable spending that kind of money on a clone. And you have to be comfortable knowing the resale value or legitimacy is not important to you. You could have one spectacular '70 SS396 for close to that kind of money in this market. That's your call.

If a guy was planning on keeping it, it may be woth doing. But if you think you may want to sell it down the road you may end up losing a lot of coin.

The cool thing about a tribute, clone, wanna be, is that you could beat the living snot out of it and not be breaking any man laws.
There is no law that says you can't beat the snot out of a real LS6 car either. Guys didn't buy 450 factory horses when they were new to baby them around. They bought them to go fast. Or at least that's what the guys I know did. I know I would drive the wheels off of it if I had a real LS6 car.

nice car, little over priced for a clone..even if it is a frame off...and I bet that Chinese intake isn't bolted to a pair of 291 heads or any kind of rectangular port heads for that matter.

For $4K more or so..I would rather have this:

 Just change the decal on the breather lid, the fender emblem to 454, and the tach. No one will question other minor LS6 missing details but you would have a great driver and investment. Be realistic, you probably would never make use of the 450hp anyway.
