Hey, I was wondering if any of you have seen this show on the Speed Channel. Maybe there's already a post on this. I searched but didn't find one, so. . . .

These two schools in CA are building drag cars and then they will race them. They are SERIOUS drag cars. Supposedly, they have a budget of $10,000, but it looks like a lot of stuff gets donated. The motors they have each put out nearly 1,000 hp, so I am thinking the motors alone are 10-15K.

Pretty high end stuff. A little nicer than the six banger we assembled in shop class when I was in high school!

Just wanted to hear your thoughts on the show.

It makes me grind me teeth, since about five years ago we ditched the auto program at the high school where I teach. There are so many kids that are interested in it, and "wrenching" is also very technical/educational, lots of science, engineering, math stuff. I'll stop there.

I wonder who is going to drive the cars? Will it be students? Also, I would think they'll have some test and tune sessions. That will be fun to watch too.

I don't know, it's good and bad. I really don't want to see a show about kids throwing eggs or chasing a bull around a field. I would have liked it more had it been a little more technical to explain what they were doing or what the car setup and combos were. I mean, the race already happened by the time the shows came out, so why should it be so secretive?

Personally I don't think the team building the Chevelle did much homework. If they had even tried to do some research on how to build a chevelle race car they would have had a ton of links to here from ANY of the search engines... They could have saved a ton of time and effort and built the car a lot quicker. I agree that they should go more into the why and how of the build. I personally would not want my engine to be dyno'd on an outside dyno... Talk about having to watch the correction factors...

Ya, i been following that, that is 1 nasty Chevelle, wheels up and spitting out clutch dust.. very cool, also tune in to Pinks and PassTime :)

The other half complains that the Speed Channel dominates the TV..
That wasnt clutch dust. That was dirt in the frame rails from when they found it in a field they said. The driver almost lost the car when is lost traction on the dirt. There are 2 or 3 kids in each class that are worth a crap IMHO. None of them seem to give a crap and dont listen to what the teacher tells them to do. Do you really think those kids built 100% of those cars ? Half of them couldnt tie their shoes. Total waste of time and money if you ask me. What happens to the cars when the shows over ? I missed some of shows from last season, did they sell the cars ? Last years show was a real joke.

I like the show. Sometimes they put a little BS filler in, but still enjoy watching it.
They sure did butcher the 1/4 panels on the chevelle.
Yeah, but I thought that old guy did a pretty good job salvaging them though (good enough for a race car anyway). At least he got the body line(s) back.

There are probably two groups of kids on those projects, first the attention whores you see on tv, who do little work, and second the kids actually doing the work you dont see on the tv because they have more interest in the projects than being on tv.

Lame show imo. I watched the first 2 episodes and had enough. too much drama/not enough cars for me, but hey it is TV right?

Chevelles gettin so much cheesy rap this year! first fast and the curious pulling weighted wheelies, now one that is gold with flames:(

lol, my brother watches it though. That guy "big block" makes me laugh too!

Yeah I watch it to.... Those kids dont know how good they have it,,, WE didnt do anything like that at out tech center or when I went to college --even..My school didnt have its own auto shop,, there was 1 tech center for the whole county and ya had to get yerselve there every day,, and my regualr high school hated loosing half thier STATE MONEY for the tech kids and actually deducted a 1/2 credit hr per day for goin there..

Ya most of the kids goof off on the show,, only a couple care

but at least it gets some of then interested ,,, because if they are workin on a hod rot they arent goin out and getting into trouble with idle time on thire hands.. Think about the days we wer all in school ,,, if a kid wasnt into sports -hunting or his -car what was he out doing??? most likeley causing trouble or smokin dope...

Last year there was a kid asking for info here but was not real credable.

I watch the show......... there is alot od dumb drama here and there, but the cars are interesting to watch. I've been watching this year because they are building a 71.
I'd agree it would be more interesting if they were building more "stock" type cars. Those motors are crazy over the top and easly 10G plus in just the motor. You know those kids didn't build those motors......... nor do I blame them. There is too much money invested in that set up for errors.
It was funny to see all the dirt fly out of the frame rails of the chevelle on its first hard launch. It reminded me of my car, except on my car it would have been rust and parts flying off.
