What a burn out! Sorry, the Monte wasn't nearly as nice. It had been repainted red though!

On the parting out subject: I too respect and know the difference between a parts car and a restorable collector.
5 years ago i discovered a 71 monte w/ only 43K actual on it- sitting in a crapped out open garage! it was mildewed, mouse infested, but still "clean." Bought it for 400. After a new starter, fuel pump, gas and trailering- and 2 full weeks of oil fogging the stuck 350- i got it to turn over.

Another 2 weeks to get her running decent- and try to drive with severely rusted and grinding brakes- it ran and drove. I sold it to a guy for his supposed dream car at a good discount. i wanted it to go complete. next week, he yanked the 350 for a BB and then nothing- ended up selling again.

That darn 350 ran great for how long it sat (14 years) and it had the good # heads on it too. Would've loved to save that 350and tranny assembly. Wanted to keep the car intact being all original. But it was not to be.

I'm all for keeping the 1st gen MC's on the road. They are rare and just as cool as a chevelle if not more so because of their usual features.

I encourage you guys to shop somewhere besides eBay
I agree, but if a guy is asking what parts are worth and he is wanting top money for it then Ebay is where he wants to sell.

The 12 bolt, tach dash and buckets/console are the big ticket items, after that it's fan shroud extension (especially BB), tail lights, wiring harnesses, grille, grille badge, hood ornament, steering column, seat belts (especially black), bumpers, etc.........if your time has value I wouldn't spend more than $1000-1500 if selling everything.

I would imagine that it's worth more to a Monte Carlo fan who would restore it. But I'm basing that statement on absolutley nothing
I had a numbers matching 70 SS monte with every possible part desirable exept the breather, asked 3k for it on the monte site and couldn't get any interest in two months. This car had an original CRN LS5 454. I tried selling it on there as a whole car thinking and maybe even hoping someone would keep it together and restore it. Absolutely no interest. Put it on here and it was sold for the same 3k in two days. The guy didn't even bother talking me down. He then took what he needed for his chevelle and sold the drive train on e-bay for 4k. Most likely to another chevelle guy. My point? Knock it in the head and do what you want with it. No one over there is going to pay you for it.

I call bull on that one....

im withalfred on this one. which monte board did you post this car on? i know on the fgmcc board there is a green 70 on there that the guy has been trying to sale for 6 months its even been on ebay. this time of age people are trying to save there money for more important things. with out pictures its hard to get a good ideal on what the car looks like.

Sorry, I didn't intend to highjack your thread with that bomb, but seeing how I'm being called a liar. I tried selling my car in oh, I'd say June/July of '07 and yes on the fgmcc site. This was well over a year before the stock market crash of '08. If you guys recall, this was when your eastern meet in '07 was in Indy. Feel free to correct any of this that you feel is BS. Your main man Leo Kinnok (spelling) was the only one to even look at it and he didn't want it because my wife drives a honda. He wanted me to haul it eight hours north of my house and then negotiate the price:noway:. Hit TTT at least ten times on the thread and nothing. Waited six months for any bites, then put in on here and it was gone in two days. The car was white with a black vinyl top, Flint car. It was located at my house in Terre Haute,In. Before you reply you should talk to Leo. Any of you guys that want to place a wager on my BS, just let me know. Sorry again for the high jack.

Not that i have a dog in this fight but tranny smoke is right . I remember his car on that monte site but didn't think it was that long ago ? How time flies when your broke ! I was interested in the car & emailed him about it but was to dumb or broke to pull the trigger . Also do remember a 70 monte 454 drivetrain on e-bay that did go for around 4 grand because i put it on my watch list to see what it would go for . Didn't know it was this car ???!!! Not trying to start a flame , just telling what i remember .

Was your screen name "Turbo" when you were on the site?

If so I'm remembering a very very rough car that you are talking about.
You are correct. The car was rough, but that doesn't change the fact that it had a CRN, LS5, 454, 400 turbo, 12 bolt, boxed in control arms, 1 1/8" sway bar, bolt on steering knuckle, load leveling system, big block fan shroud and oh yes, the SS454 emblem on the fender. Now if it wasn't a SS, (I'm about 99.9% sure it was) someone sure went to a lot of trouble rig up a rough monte. No matter now, it's spread out across the U.S. and Canada on probably a half dozen chevelles by now. The drive train went to a Canadian bidder on e-bay if I recall correctly. Thank you chevelleshack for the confirmation.

 Sounds like Leo!
I dont know what his reason was for not taking it, so I wont speak for him.
I dont quite understand the anger towards the FGMCC here though. If noone wanted the car there, and it sold here, whats the problem? You got what you wanted, and the car is scattered around, big deal, It makes the ones that are left that much more desirable. There always seems to be a feud between the Monte and Chevelle crew almost like a Ford -vs-Chevy rivalry.
Tons of Montes were used for Chevelles Im sure due to the disc brake setup alone.
Montes are tougher to find parts for than Chevelles because noone is making the needed parts. No Grilles, Fenders, etc....and when a Monte is cut up for parts, it is a shame in some cases, but in alot of cases, its much needed parts for us Monte folk!

I agree, when I said that, I wasn't talking about myself, I just didn't remember it, both chevelles and montes have to give there lives to save others, otherwise there would be no parts for us to buy at all

There is no anger towards the fgmcc on my part. I love first gen montes. I was merely giving my opinion on what the author of this thread should do with his car based solely on my experience, which is what the man was looking for. You are more than welcome to share your opinion on what he should do. My anger comes in when I'm publicly called a liar by a guy who didn't have any business doing so and I backed up what I had said with some truth. I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally take offense when someone tells me I'm full of BS when I'm not.

It is very unfortunate that this is the first time i have posted on this site , it would be nice to be welcomed , some of you know me from the FGMCC club , i happen to have a deep passion for cars ,Chevelles , Monte Carlos ,Challangers ,Torinos , Rebels , you name it i like it , i cant believe i am here posting for the first time to defend my name , it is Leo Konik , lets try to get a couple facts straight

1. we shook hands on the deal , delivery was the to be negotiated and i am always fair , you would not return my calls period

2. i could care less what type of car anyone drives , i do not personally drive hondas ,but that by no means a reason to not buy that car

3. please do not mention my name again unless you can back up what you are saying

4. i am super happy you sold the car and the fact that it is parted out does not bother me , cars are usually worth more in pieces , that is why people part them out

5. i have never felt anamosity toward any classic car owner regardless of make or model

as i said before sure would have been nice to come here on my own and be welcomed not drawn in

i have several chevelles as well as several montes camaros impalas and rebels and a 51 ford truck

i am very sorry that this deal went south and that i offended you or your wife dont even remember the honda , but i am no ones man other than my wifes , and i treated you with respect , i expect the same in return

i will be around here now and then , we restore montes and chevelles and are always looking for new friends

Leo

This really isn't worth a whole lot of effort on anyone's part. But... You know the old saying it's not what you say it's how you say it. You have read what I said, not how I said it. Which happens a lot I suppose on the internet. It's kind of hard knowing how something is being said when your reading it and not hearing it or seeing it being said. And reading the entire thread is always a bonus. You really have nothing to upset about. Once again I merely gave my opinion. If you were not the guy that came and looked at my car, your name would not have been mentioned. The only thing I'm going to apologize for is the miss spelling of your name. That being said, there was no deal. We shook hands when we introduced ourselfs. There may have even been a hand shake as you left. No hand shake was made over a deal, because no deal was made. I never received any phone calls from you. If I have a car for sale, why would a avoid a call from a potential buyer? This car was for sale on the fgmcc site long after you looked at it. It doesn't bother me that you didn't buy it. I would part out the car that this thread was orignially started for based on my experience with a very similar situation. You just happen to be a part of that very similar situation. As you can see I'm actually trying to keep this thread what it was orignally intended for. I'm sure the original auther as long since lost interest.
