Been thinking about buying a 70 Monte Carlo for some time. There's some floor rust and I'm sure more than that- but it's complete though non running. I ran the engine codes- not original 350 (mid 70s.) However, it has:
nice clean bucket seats, full console w/ horse shoe shifter, and in-dash tach. It is not a ss 454 car. But it has a 12 bolt (unsure about posi)- but Monte's usually come with them.

I've wanted this car for parts for my chevelle for so long. Seller wants $2500+. If it would turn over and run I thought that was a good deal. Being non running though always gets less $ IMO.

Vinyl top
good trim and grill
What's it worth?

Monte's just don't bring the money that Chevelles do, for whatever reason. A non-running Monte with rust issues should top out around $1000, I would think.

12-bolt non-posi, axles most likely ruined, maybe $250 (housing probably all that is useable)
Console & Shifter $150
bucket seat cores maybe $300 if springs, foam, & plastic are OK
Tach/gauge dash, maybe $300

Maybe some other sale-able stuff, disk brakes, motor, tranny, etc, but it takes a lot of labor to disassemble and part a car out... I really don't see how this car brings much over $1000.

doors/ maybe power either way doors
1/4s
fenders
hood
yes it takes labor..
some d it some don't..
non running could mean alot..
if the owner tuned it up and it was running.. would asking 2500 (knowing you'd only see 1900-2000 ) out of line?

I would buy every Monte I could find equipped like this for $1000! You must be buying this stuff at a discount! Every part you quoted above goes much higher than that, especially on Ebay! I have yet to see a complete tach and gauge dash go for $300! (By complete I mean nice whole plastic dash, all gauges, and pad)If you know of any complete for sale at that price, let me know, I will buy them! I have seen complete dash and gauge setups go for $1000+ by themselves! That being said, the car, non-running and rusty is not worth $2500+1 Probably in the $1500-$2000 if there are also many other parts that can be sold off it. A running car would make it worth more because you would then have an idea on the condition of the motor/trans.

to a monte person some of those parts are hard to find. $2500 is kinda high for a non-running monte. aaron you might want to post that on the fgmcc.com to get a better ideal on what its wroth. if the only rust problems is the floor that is a easy fix with a floor pan. now if your ideal is to buy it and then part it out you can make a killing on a few items. if the quarter panels are in good shape not rust or bondo and you make clean cuts they will bring close to $800. the fender wells for a monte are not being repro so there is another $200 if they are good. front fenders even with the usually rust under the side trim can bring $500. headlight and tail light extension can bring $50 to $100 if good. the grill you are looking at anywhere from $250 to $350 depending on how bad it is. if the car still has the vinyl top trim thats $125 as long as its not pitted. interior is the same as a chevelle just the seat patterns are different and the dash and console will have woodgain on them. not all montes came with a posi these cars were a luxury. if you have pictures of the car im sure i could get prices on the parts. one item to watch for is the air ride compressor and the valve on the passenger side at the rear end. just those two items alone is $1500 in non working order. the compressor will be on the drivers inner fender as can be seen in this picture http://www.load-it-up.de/090417/SpLv8a22.jpg . another item that will fit a chevelle is the front glass back glass and the trunk lid.

I encourage you guys to shop somewhere besides eBay

some take offense in cutting up a monte for a chevelle
I know that it's awesome to be able to get your hands on OEM parts for cheap money. I don't want to upset anyone or start a riot, but where's the logic in cutting up and parting out restorable cars, especially when there are plenty of people looking for nice starter cars? There are plenty of non-restorable cars out there for parts. I know that the line between restorable and not restorable is blurred sometimes. Going by the values givin in this thread, the Monte in question has about the same value as a two door Malibu in the same condition. I guess my point is, I don't remember the last time I saw a decent first generation Monte. They seem to be disapearing and I just find it sad.

Thank you all. I know there's some killer parts on this car. It's amazing it's still in one piece. 2500 was too hi for me- it's been sitting for years same way now. If it had been running...

Actually my brother and i tried a gas can-hose trick w/ a battery pack booster- to see if it at least turned over. A 350 that spins still has some usual parts on it. I'm used to selling 350parts all the time (intakes, cranks, heads). Maybe it might get running.

I think it had air too if i remember right. i have pics somewhere. I wanted the parts for my chevelle. Now the chevelle's gone, but i still want this car for parts.

I have many guys interested in it just mentioning it- alot of racers want it to- it has the longer or extended frame so if they smash the front the radiator won't get crunched.

There's 2 other montes- they both have 8.2 rear ends with no options like this at all.

I don't have room for another car- does anybody?- but i'd buy it, take what i want, and then sell the body.

At first the whole car especially a 70 was too good to be true. thought it was rust free. Then I saw the rust hole in the floor. Couldn't even open the trunk (yet). Decoding it was no bigee, but NOM surprised me.

I'm glad i stuck to my guns (price-wise.) I wouldn't be able to make money (much less anything after borrowing trailer and gas money back and forth.)

I wanted the 12 bolt, seats, console, 350 and tranny. AC items and radiator. I don't think i would mess with the dash though it's clean but not perfect. takes forever to take everything out in one piece.

Sorry about rambling- but Montes are a mixed group. I remember driving back home that day too- seeing another 70 on the side of the road 4 sale. Completely rusted out- all the way up the belt line. "rebuilt" 350 and had a 12 bolt- that's it. Guy still wanted 2800 or 1800 (can't remember)- way too much for how gone it was. Don't think it sold either.
