I was reading another post in another thread and it got me thinking. When i bought this membership, i knew you can't trash companies. I am fine with that because i believe it is unethical to do so, BUT, why can't we tell the truth? A few times i have wanted to warn people about buying a product from a company cause of my experience but was affraid to do so. Would it really be unethical to say "Don't buy bumpers from ****** because i have received three different ones and NONE of them fit!" I mean, it's is the truth. Why can't we say someone's customer service would be better if ran by two-year olds, or their stock is always out? Or am i mistaken and we can warn others?
Thanks, and i am not one to cause problems but it has been on my mind for a while. Thanks guys!

I think that's a good question but let me ask you this and see if the answer becomes clear. You are the site owner and someone posts "don't use ABC widgets" and gives what sounds like a valid reason. Now most the folks that read that message don't come back in two weeks and find out that the poster was just angry or the competition and ABC wedgets gets it's name cleared. As the site owner you see that 2000 people saw the first post but only 200 came back and saw the truth unfold. How do you feel about what went down on your site and the fact that ABC wedgets may have lost many customers because 1800 people never came back to the thread to find the truth but did go out and shared the wrong info to their local car club and cruise in buddies? Next, you know most of the guys are cool honest folks but if you allow them to share their bad dealings you also have to let the others and just how do you tell who is who across the internet?

I think Al has gone way out of his way by installing the parts review area outside of the forums. Give it a look see it may be just what you are looking for... Look for the link on the upper right of this page.

Yea, i understand that side of it. To be honest...i wouldn't go to ABC Widgets cause i wouldn't be able to say their name without cracking up!!...LMAO!!! Sorry, jk around. But yea, i see what you're saying. But like, there have been a few things that i ran into but didn't post them cause i was affraid of getting in trouble. For example, (please don't get me in trouble!) the door panel issue with a certain company, the SAME thing happened to me about 6 months ago! When i read this guy's post, i felt kinda bad! But yea, i guess i can see the other side.

I spend a lot of time in the forums and relatively less time in the parts reviews. My observation: the forums have quite a bit of complaining about vendors and not much (although there are some) success stories. On the other hand, the reviews have mostly good things to say, not much negative.

We deal with old cars and mechanical parts. Many of the parts are new but 30-40 years old (NOS) or will-fit parts (either reproductions or service parts). We are happy to have them. But many are (relatively) low volume production runs with little R&D time or expense. And, we wouldn't want to pay the higher prices otherwise. These parts, in fact all parts, will fail or have problems -- it's the law of averages. So, for me it isn't so much about the part, but how the vendor responds when a part isn't A.) what we expected (our fault) or B.) good quality (their fault).

It strikes me that when the there is a complaint, it's easy to blast some body -- yet few take the time to write an objective review. I'm for less of the former and more of the latter.

I think more people need to use the part reviews, I've had pretty good luck with aftermarket stuff. I guess it's ok to post negative stuff there???
Yes it is, just be factual and objective in your review. Look for my review on chrome pulleysas an example. Just don't put "the part sucks", explain why it is junk.

LOL, sorry to make it less effective/funny, but I just turned 17! Nonetheless I get your point:thumbsup:

What's more interesting to me is the fact that my 6 year old cousin has better spelling skills than most of the grown men on here.

I agree. There an not many reviews posted yet, but strangely enough, there are not many viewers either. Surely enough we can do better than that, it's a great forum that should be put to use.

As far as the vendor bashing goes, I would say that a negative but objective review (i.e just simple facts of the matter) should be ok, as long as you can list valid reasons for your disappointment. General complaints like "this part is a POS" won't help anyone, but a detailed description of possible problems would be very helpful. I can't see that this would be out of line at all. The way I see it, it's not vendor bashing as long as you can back it up with facts and figures.
