There is plenty wrong with the picture..what I lament is what is wrong with hobby and with the post. On the surface the car seems nice enough...some things need to change and some things arejust ugly like that steering wheel. With those comments made and other similiar comments left unsaid the bigger isseis this.
People are buying these cars becasue people are building them and claiming them to be something they are not. This car looks like a good car for someone wo can't afford the real deal or someone who does not care about having the real deal. All this is trure and holds water IF the price is reasonable. Add in E-bay and the insanity some buyers have for this car and it will sell for big money, way more than it hs any right to bring.
The process is broken here..people want topnotch cars for bargain basement prices, people want top notch profits on home made cars and along comes E-bay. E-bay becomes the perfect place to match people who should know better than to represent these cars the way they do, people who should know better than to build the things in the first place with people who have no clue what they are buying.
When all the smoke clearsreal SS owners have their underware in a knot because their cars are somehow devalued, the buyer gets screwed, the seller fetches a great profit and we (the hobby in general) are headed one step closer to the foolishness of the Corvette hobby where every drop of oil has to be checked aand certfied as being "as shipped" in 1966 and every cubic inch of air in the tires has to be certified as chemically the same as the composition of the air in St Louis in 1969 on or about the date the tires were mounted.
I have said it before and I am gonna say it again..the cloning is not gonna stop, lamenting it is not going to change anything, training legions of inspectors and certifiers ain't the answer.....There just has to be a way that people get over the fact that these carsexist and that they will continue to exist.
Clones being the scourge of the car show only drves the prices of the real deal cars HIGHER and the cones makers sweep right in to the void makin newermore expensive clones.
Might we all not be better off if we looked at cars like this and said."Not bad nice driver' and just left it at that. There is always Caveate Emptor ..buyers who are not aware are gonna get screwed it just is how the system works.
Instead of takin apart the cars like this that are entry level cars for folks people with the real cars should work harder on documentation. You can protect the value of your car with rocksolid documentation and effectively decrease the value of the clones by exposing their relative lack of documentation.
I just wish this was not going on in the hobby. Non original cars are worthy and have value for the work and the effort and the originality that goes into the parts that people put in them...5 Speeds / Corvette Disc and Suspensions and what not. The trouble starts when everyone JUST HAS to have an original and there are no enough originals around. Then the fun starts.
i just wish it was not getting like this.
