I'm going to be looking for a 4L80E transmission to install in my Chevelle, are these trannies all the same in dimensions?
What type of modifications will I have to do to fit this tranny?
What types of vehicles will I find this transmission in?
Thanks in advance for any help that you guys can provide.

Thanks,
I've got to start trying to find one, I thought about one of the aftermarket 4L80E's, but four grand seems to be a little steep! thats includes the controls though.

Why do you want to install a 4L80 in a Chevelle

They are very heavy and larger than a 4L60. At minimum the (trans) hump on the pass side floor pan will need to be hammered up for the servo clear.

I'm not sure but I think the tail shaft mounting can be a bit tricky. It seems as though I heard somewhere that you (may) need a computer to run it ? ? ?

You should be able to build a very strong 4L60 for less $

My near future plans include a crate 572ci, I want an overdrive auto trans that can stand up to the torque this monster will be putting on it.

Why not use a Th400 and the Gearvendors unit behind it? More than adequate for even the 572. I have one behind my 489 and like it. Others on TC have done it with success. Cheaper after you figure the cost of controller, trans, convertor and floorboard mods.

Thanks,
I guess there are other options, I know that the cost of the control will add up. In life I've learned that cheaper is not always better.
I've never dealt with any of the Gear vender products and I want the have reliability as well as function.
I will look into this more.
Thanks again,
Jeff
