Is there a guide out there anywhere that tells you what the correct type of bolt/fastener you need to use for each application to restore a car?

Something along the lines of a book that tells you the size, head and marking the bolts are supposed to have?

I'm putting together an entire car that's been apart 13 years and things weren't that well labeled when I took it apart. I was young and half the bolts broke anyway this car was so rusted. Even though I can normally find a bolt to fit the hole, I know it's not what might be correct for the application.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

That'll teach you to bag and label.

I can't seem to remember where things go from one day to the next, let alone 13 years.

An assembly manual may be some help. Every screw, nut & bolt is called out with a part number, but unfortunately, it doesn't tell you what size they are. It does help by showing where the same (or different) screws are used (if you have the patience to look at every part number.)

I suggest you buy repro fastener kits - it''s got to be the easiest thing to do. Most of them come all bagged and labeled for your convenience. A worthwhile investment if you have to replace lots of parts. Good luck.

I count them alot; if I have a big pile of fasteners all of the same size, I separate them into identical piles; if I have 14 of one and 14 holes, and 9 of another and 9 holes where some other part gets held on, etc., it's fairly easy to figure out which go where.

we just got a complete interior screw kit from ground up. every thing was packaged and labeled to where they go.
made it a simple job.
they have all the hardware.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions guys. My problem is how long the car was apart, the fact that 1/2 the bolts were trashed as they came out and when I started this I never thought it would be apart this long................

I'm gonna get it together the best I can, than go back and fix any problem areas!!
