What rear end ratio are you using with your 5 speed TKO and are you happy with it? Assuming 27-28 inch tall tires.

You really have to determine how the car is going to be used. If you do ALOT of highway, I suggest 3.31/3.42/3.55. If your mostly around town with the occasional highway run, consider 3.73/3.90/4.11, so you can use 5th.

When I had 3.31's, I HATED it. But, the one time I was on the highway doing 70-80 it was sweet! But otherwise, I needed to be doing 65-70 minimum to use 5th - no good!

Now with 3.90's, I need to get up to 45 and I'm good. Coulda and maybe shoulda went to 4.11's, b/c right now I'm always bouncing back and forth between 4th and 5th. 5th still a tad too tall for the back roads, but I guess that's OK. Highway rpms are about 2100 at 70mph - perfect for me! Dont worry about 1st being too short...its supposed to be short, its first gear!

I am very happy with 4.10's and a .082 overdriven 5th gear

.64 overdrive w/ 373's is perfect! Gets you out of the hole well and allows you to cruise at 80 mph at about 2200 rpm with 28" tall tires. If I had to chose anything else, it would be 3.90's.

396ci with 3:73. I like it.I could even stand to go to 4:11. At 60 im doing 2100 and at 70 its 2300.Also eveyone needs to check his speedo with a GPS.If you go by the calculation from tremec it will be wrong. The guy I bought my car from had the (what he was told was the right gear) wrong gear in the trans and the speedo was off by 10mph.Im now running a 23 tooth and Im right on.When I go from 26 tires to 28 I will be able to go back down.

Really? What the CC5S calculator showed me was DEAD accurate as to what I'm really turning. with my 28" tires and 70 mph its 2100 rpms for me - and I love it!

I know my 68 was a breeze, just reached up and threaded it onto the back of the speedo. Took me about 30 seconds... Are 71's different?

I have been running the 4.10 for a couple of years. Rear needs to be rebuilt. Thats why I was thinking about going to maybe 3.73 or so. Yes first gear is really low with the 4.10, but is a lot of fun to play with and it still is fun to take long highway trips in.
