I worked for Zora Arkus-Duntov for a while, and two years before he passed away, I get two crates from him. So, I call him and ask what they are, didn't open either crate. He tells me the contents are now mine, and, that he knew I would keep, and use them in good faith. He told me that they are the very last Ar-Dun Flat Head Ford V8 kits, one is a complete over head valve conversion kit, the other is a complete supercharger kit for the Ar-Dun OHV conversion. He also said they were the very last conversions each of what he and his brother made, decades before. I will never open either crate.
That is in fact "American History"! If you have documentation of some sort you are stylin....

I have Dyno Don Nicholson's cherry picker which I bought at his estate sale from his grandson. BUT!!!!!!!!! It is in use. :D
I do have the TCS switch from my 70 Monte Carlo but I keep it in the spare bolt box. Not to bright but who would've known?

Can't top that one! I'm not sure I'd have as much self control though.

I have an old Holley carb that would have come stock on a 460 Ford. I'll never use it, and I've moved 3 times and still have it. Anybody need a paper weight?

Great topic. I'm actually slowly getting rid of some of those parts sitting around forever. Extra bucket seats, consoles, steering columns, rears... but staying on topic I have a mid 60's Lakewood bellhousing that just looks cool, cast iron intake manifolds, Buick quadrajet, Muncie 4 speed, even cast iron oval ports-never going to use any of them.

Non Chevelle related I have a NOS woodgrain center console top for a 87-89 Chrysler LeBaron/Dodge Daytona, 2 nice 1985-7 Shelby Charger tail lights, 2 mint 2006-2007 Charger tail lights, and a working digital dash from a 1980s Daytona. I can't imagine anyone ever wanting that stuff, but they are up on the shelf taking up space.

Typically, if I take a part off to replace it, I’ll never use it again. But I hate to throw things away so I typically put them on eBay. And if they’re small or cheap I sell them in lots to avoid having to ship millions of times. An example is this current lot of misc parts: note this isn’t an attempt to list my eBay stuff on this site, just an example of what I do with parts I’ll never use. No pricing, no link.

OK, admit it, who all studied that picture to see if there is anything you need. I sure did.

For you guys that are hanging onto stuff, why?
Is it because someday you’ll get around to a project that needs them?
Your hoping they’ll go up in value/rarity?
They are to cool to sell?
Others “can’t handle the part” (said Jack Nicholas, never)
Maybe list them on the sales pages within this site and see if someone can use them??? Use the money to buy something else that someone else has hoarded for years and the world keeps turning.....

I think its the hoarding mentality. And its the never say never train of thought. Ive got a 4 speed set up, a 66 12 bolt posi, 68 bucket seats, new bbc rpm heads a couple 454's and a set of new Hedman headers for a A body, extra disc brake set up. These parts will never get used unless I find another chevelle or el camino body. But im not letting them go even though im not expecting to find another A body. BUT. If I do find a roller. I have most of the good stuff on hand. Jim

Jim, you always find another project, it seems! haha

Dennis, I keep just I don't need because it's not broken so it seems silly to throw it away. If someone needed something I had from my 'never gonna use it' pile I'd let 'em have it. I'd rather hoard it than see it recycled into a soup can. As for the 3 extra hoods I have... maybe someday I'll use em for paint practice. or have something cool painted on em and hang them from the rafters.

Agreed. I just don’t want to see it crushed or in the garbage.
Someone somewhere is looking for something someone else has somewhere.
But three hoods? I mean “extra” hoods????

An ESAB spray welder torch that sits on the shelf.

heck, I bought a fiberglass AF/x hood with the ford backward teardrop bubble on it. It's a bolt on hood, probably never use it, but its hanging off my rafters in the garage. I have never seen one like it, just had to have it, now I dont know what I'm going to do with it. jim
