ok so the starter soleniod went out on my brothers truck. when he would try to start the truck it would just whine and not crank. so we get another starter in there and the engine cranks but doesnt start. we check for air... got it. we check for fuel.... got that too. but when we check for spark..... nothing at all. the wires on the coil are good and intact.(hei) and everything looks fine. my question is could the starter going out like that blow the module in the distributor? sounds funny but im questioning it cuz thats all i can think of. everything is hooked up correctly and it looks like the problem lies in the distributor. help me out here.

That's not the solenoid, that's the starter drive--sometimes (incorrectly) called the starter Bendix.

EXTREMELY unlikely.

What year truck?
Are you sure you reconnected all of the wires????

how many wires go to the BAT side of the HEI-on older cars that had a resistor to the coil, they used a term off the starter that provided a full 12 v to the coil in the start mode
its the term to the outside of the sol-sometimes if someone has the feed to the dist on a conn that has 12 v, but loses it in the start mode, they will also use that term on the sol
ck for power to the dist, both in the on mode and start mode

You should have the battery wire (center) large purple (to inboard stud small) and a yellow wire (to the outboard stud). The yellow goes up to the HEI batt terminal as well as the other battery feed from your ignition source.
