Vibration

I posted this on the Tech forum but thought I would post it here just in case someone reading this might have another idea.

I noticed yesterday at highway speed my 72' Chevelle has what seems to be a front end vibration that oscillates. It's like 2 sec. of vibration then 2 sec. of none, then 2 sec. of vibration then 2 sec. of none until I slowed down to about 55 mph.
I have never encountered anything like this before. If anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.
I have only had the car for a year and do not know if or when any front end work has been done. I had all four wheels balanced a few months ago.

Thanks
Bob

Rotate the tires, front to rear, see if the vibration moves, to the rear. If it does it is in the tires, lost a weight or worse a seperated tire. Worn suspension parts will not cause a vibration, only sloppy steering and noises. It never hurts to check the front end for worn parts. Make sure the wheel bearings are in good shape, well packed and tight. More than likely it is a tire problem. Good Luck.

Thanks for all the information. I haven't had the drive shaft out but I know the 350 trans was rebuilt before I bought the car. I can't swap the wheels front to back because the rear wheels are wider than the front.
The only thing I changed on the car was the right front wheel (American Racing 17") had a ding in the rim probably from a curb so I bought a new one and had it installed and balanced.
