I have this on my 1970 Chevelle SS. can any one guid me in the right direction for parts and info. I met a guy at the chevellabration he said it was called a Vigi-light and had it in a book. Could not find him again. Please any help!
I always woundered how many was made..... What book did you get that from thanksThe black 11,000 original mile LS6 convertible (with the 450H/P on the rear bumper) has this option. It's very rare, 5755 cars produced with it according to my book. Therefore, there won't be many pictures of cars with it...
Believe it or not the Red Alert Chevelle also was equipped with the U46 system as well. The black 11,000 original mile LS6 convertible (with the 450H/P on the rear bumper) has this option. When I 1st got my car a guy told me only 600 or 700 ( I cant rember) had them ...I thought that was a low number but maybe just SS?? not sure..I can only see one side also sure looks good at night..:thumbsup:In the RED BOOK it dose show that there were 5755 put on chevelles in 1970. That is counting all Cheverolet in 1970. So the # of Chevelles that would have them would be small, and the # of SS's that would have them would even be alot smaller. Am in the middle of restoring mine or would show a closer picture. It was not very functenal, for some one thats not very tall, myself included. With the cowl induction hood you can not see the one on the right side unless you lean to the right, and look around the raised hood. It is also in the rear window to show that your brke lights are working.
It is worth it...Rixls6 on the 1st page might have the back ? What you have is it a complete set..I have this setup sitting all wrapped up in my shop. I was going to put it on my 70, but couldn't bare to drill holes in original SS fenders that were already painted. I was thinking of putting them on the convertible. Don't have the setup for the rear lights though.
Mine also is behind the defrost and is from the factory? I also have never seen any other SS but mine with them on??Quetion for the blue SS has yours in the rear window been removed and is it originally equipted? Mine has never been removed or changed and is to the rear of the defrost I noticed that yours is forward of the defrost. I have never seen them on another Chevelle SS except mine that was from the factory so was wundering if they were put in diferent at each plant.
Hey there Rick,It is a very rare option. There are some guys out there that sell the fiber optic lines in different lengths, so you can make replacements for those. The rest of the system's parts are much harder to find.
The parts show up on Ebay occasionally. I have a couple of the rear package tray monitors if that's something you're looking for.
The option number is U46 Lamp Monitoring, but is also called Vigilite by others.
Picture here is of an original rear package tray monitor.
PM sentHey there Rick,
I know its a long shot, but any chance you still have any of the rear Vigilite monitors?
My 70 GTO was originally equipped with the rear-only option, and the only remaining parts on the car are the original tail lamp harness extensions with the integral fiber optic cables.
Please let me know.
Thanks!
