Well Vin, the bad news is, your transmission blew up. The good news is, your transmission rebuilder was with when it blew. Hopefully, he is a stand-up guy and is willing to make good on his not-so-good rebuild. Good luck. Hope that you make out OK.

Wow Vin sorry to hear about your terrible day.....I know its hard to think positive at a time like this but thank goodness you were not hurt.....Hope you don't find any more damage and good luck on putting it back to better condition than it was. The only time I have seen any thing happen like this it started in the rear and worked its way forward.

Did you recently do, or have had any other work done to the car such as a rear gear swap, or driveshaft replacement? What rear gear ratio is in there?

Did the new driveshaft you put in have the same length, and the same diameter as the one that was replaced? And was it made of the same material, or was something changed?

You say that you checked the the rear. Was a new crush collar used? New pinion bearings, or old ones? And what did you set the pinion bearing pre-load to when you put it back together?

I'm just wondering if you had a pinion bearing failure which maybe caused a chain reaction causing a domino effect in your drivetrain. And if the pinion bearing pre-load was set wrong, that would be a suspect if it was set shortly before the whining noise began. But that possibility only applies if you or someone else had the pinion bearing out of the rear, or if the pinion nut was atleast loosened when the rear was being checked out.

And if you installed a used crush collar, that would definitely be suspect. I'm not sure what your knowledge level is on these things, so I'm speaking about basics in case you aren't aware of them.
