Going to look for a ignition nut in an old salvage yard that has a few 66 chevelle's. I have about 6 old keys, maybe one will work; but I am not betting on it. So is the only option to drill out the lock cylinder? Any special drilling position or just drill in the center of the lock cylinder? What would be the best size drill bit? Thanks in advance.

Yes, Get a bunch of old keys and try them. A few years ago, My wife and I were coming out of a movie in Greensburg,Pa. A saw the police with a slim jim trying to get into a Buick Wagon it was a mid 80s ( It was like a Chevy Celebrity). I went to the Pass. side and my 70 El Camino Ign. key opened the door.
WOW, The look on the face of the policeman when he saw me pull the keys out of the Ign. on the Buick Wgn. I will never forget that!

Think about it, With amount of tumblers in the locks and the amount of G.M. locks. You can only have SO MANY positions for the tumblers. In that era, I believe G.M. changed every " FOUR " years.

If you pull the tumbler out and grind off the teeth you can use anything to turn the ignition and not become stranded.. I use a kill switch and my Hurst Autostick shifter doesn't have the pattern in the ball..
