Ok guys , I'm about to race a 652 rwhp lightning with my 489 I'm going throgh valve ajustments and plug checks ext. Any reminders on the checklist will help I think I'm at around 650- 700 fwhp wish me luck.
on street tires I give you the advantage; he isn't gonna hook at all............Neither of us have been to the track yet well both be on street tires his hp ( lighting) is dyno proven mine is not. My motor is copyed from steet sweeper chevelle in poppular hotrodding mag. (635 hp) Exepted I used a bigger sollid roller 666-660 lift cam Vic. Jr. Intake trickflow 320 heads electric fans under drive crank pulley. Rear end is a 9" 3.50s turbo 400 w 4400 stall.
that engine in a 3666 lb chevelle ran 11.40s.Neither of us have been to the track yet well both be on street tires his hp ( lighting) is dyno proven mine is not. Lightings dont have a huge gear out back just a 3.73 IIRC from the factory and again IIRC the stock converter is something like 2600~2800. I just gave the 60' advantage to the truck assuming that they were going to be running slicks at the track. Also because there is probably a 100ftlb difference between the two vehicles in question. I see what you are saying though and cant help but lean in your direction too. Guess we will just have to wait and see.I agree with some of what you're saying, and it might be a close race, but 800 LBS weight difference is a lot. For the Lightning to 60' as good as the Chevelle, and having 800 extra LBS to carry, will likely require 4.56 rear gears, and a farly high RPM stall speed. if this truck doesn't have that, then I don't think that it will 60' as good unless the Chevelle doesn't hook, or it has highway gears in the rear.
I turned consistent 1.6 seconf 60' times with a low 12 second 4,200 LB car, but it required 4.56 gears and a 3,000 RPM stall speed to do that on drag radials. 3,000 RPM isn't "high" by drag race standards, but it was 600 RPM higher than factory. So it will depend on what else the Lightning had done to the drivetrain.
I'm pretty sure they fixed the butterfly opening issues and fuel supply issues and were able to get it to rev,The magazine car was running 11.30 s or 40s and they were only taking it to 5500 rpms, my car is still pulling hard all the way to 6800 rpms so I'm hoping to get a little better et. Cam is efective 3000 to7000 rpm. Limiter set at 6800 rpms. 69 300 deluxe (I love my sedan) soon Ill be putting some tire under this thing
