The 'old' trick was to wrap electrical tape around the column. But that and using a hose clamp is probably something that SHOULD be out-dated. I'd use the 3M double-sided tape to just stick it on and forget the ugly old hose clamp. It's much stronger than anything available years ago and should hold up a tach just fine.

I am doing the in-dash coversion in my 68. Remove the clock insert the tach in it's place. The clock no good to me. I have a power kill system that disconnects all power from the radiator support foward. So clock is never correct
Purchased it from chevyworldparts.com.
He had them for 69s also.
Did not want tach on column

I never liked the look of the tack on the steering column, I think its looks better when its in the dash housing.

Hello , I have some colored elec cloth take and am going to wrap a clamp amd One will not notice it at all will look great . I have had it instaled a couple of ties just to see what lloks best and I like this best. I didn't want any thing to look to ( gaughie) ugly is not what i like

Way back in 1970, I drilled and tapped the colum by the key and secured a Tach mount to the colum. I used button head allens. ( This install is going to look like factory) I also ran the wires through the colum---------AND when I put it in reverse to back out of the garage, BIG SMOKE freeken wires were burning the engine quit running
Its funny 38 years later, But it was not funny then!!

i was reading this thread and i had a thought.why not use 1/8 black foam weather stripping with the sticky backside?you can cut it to fit the base of the tac, cut to the width and length of the hose clamp.i think i would look better then tape and a piece of hose.just a thought
