stopping rust

hello i am new to the site. like it by the way... Anyway i have a question. I just removed the floor pan in my 70 malibu to replace it and getting ready to weld in the new one. I getting ready to sand the inside of the braces, to clean them up. after i sand the braces what should i coat them with so i can keep them from rusting?

Stopping Rust, the cancer of the automobile! If you can clean the area rusted that has some surface rust but is still useable with a wire brush or 3M rust buster pad. Blow the area well with high pressure air to get any debris from any rust pits. Then coat with a rust neutral. Permetex, Loctite and Duplicolor have these in spray can formula. Lowes sells a quart that is very similar to a product called OSPRO, this is my favorite. These products turn the rust to black once it is neutral. Then prime and prep for paint.

Note: It is always best to cut out the old rust, however this is not always possible. Air is the activator of rust. No air = No active rust. Sealing the metal will keep it from breathing. Just my .02
