I finally pulled the spark plug out of my 72 307 and found that three of the cylinders had one type of plug (AC R44T) and the other 5 had a different one (Champion RV17YC). Was someone trying to fix something by doing this, or may this just be a case of "well, I only have 5 of these and 3 of them other ones, it should run"

Also it appears that it may have eaten a mouse:

Perhaps it was fouling plugs, but no need to replace all of them...

I had a car (Chevelle) that would oil-foul one plug within a few hours of driving... I just changed that one plug every few days... Eventually, it started using so much oil, I finally parked it...

well, I cleaned them up and put them back in except for the one with the mouse or whatever hair.That I replaced with a clean used Champion that was in the ashtray.
I just wondered if maybe the PO was trying to fix an oil fouling issue on certain cylinders.

The three AC plugs have a really short electrode (the mouse hair pic from above) and the others, the ceramic on the center electrode is sticking out of the plug maybe .090" Figured if that was it I would know what to expect once I have it running for reals.

Doesn't matter, I cranked it for 15 seconds or so a couple of times, put them back in, gave it a shot of starting fluid and VROOM! :happy:

my experience tells me that you only put Champion spark plugs in a car engine if you want it to start fowling plugs..
just go by a set of 8 matching spark plugs so you at least have the same parts in the whole engine...

I've always heard to stay away from them too. Right now I'm just treading water doing "free" stuff because we're getting ready to go on vacation so they got cleaned up with some carb cleaner and a rag and went back in. This family stuff is really getting in the way of my fun

AC/Delco in a GM Vehicle...

& Autolite in a FOMOCO... (& who cares about anything else...)

They all seem to run better that way...
