I agree with all the things said here. At 71 I enjoy the cruise nights and cars and coffee meetings with friends. But what I realized I liked the most was working on the cars with my son, watching him learn to wrench on his car and mine and the satisfaction of doing it ourself. It kept him out of trouble and he learned to work with his hands, something many young people don't get a chance to do.
It is like looking through a window into past years,"I remember making those same mistakes, or he's better at that than I am!"
Seeing all these new performance cars is great. It's more people into the hobby, more people enjoying cars and getting out and driving them.
We are gear heads, we like wrenching on stuff.
I'm still working on my Chevelle, having just installed a new engine ,tranny, and new exhaust, at 71 with knee surgery in the middle of it.
I did all that work crawling under it and then realized I forgot I had bought a creeper from Harbor freight.
Right now I am planning to work on the front brakes on the car in the unheated garage and it's 35* and it's hard as hell to get up and down constantly.
It's way better than turning on that stupid "now flat" box and watching other people work on cars for 30 minute shows.
