First off is there a dedicated Monte Carlo site for the 70-72 montes?

I love these cars almost as much as chevelles! I see that they go for pretty cheap.

How much should I expect to pay for this car
http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-classic-cars-1972-MONTE-CARLO-W0QQAdIdZ114822746

I am still awaiting pictures. Seems to be a veryyyy steep asking price! But the colour is my favourite (yellow) with a black top. I will show you guys the pictures when I get them

here is another one that Tom found for me, I am not a fan of the colour blue really all that much, but the price looks right!

How much would you offer for a running driving monte. That first car that I have not seen pics of, I wouldn't offer him any more than 8k since the car is not even an SS.

Also, do all monte's have vinyl roofs? and if I was to keep my car parked outside (no garage space) would rain make that vinyl rot away underneath? or would it be okay?

Also how much do these big boys weigh? I wanna go fast; street/strip is my kind of thing

Thanks guys!

Andrew yes there is a 70-72 monte site fgmcc.com. Not all monte's came with the vinyl top trim they did come without or with a two tone paint job with the roof being a different color from the bottom. As for the first car $14k sounds to high without seeing pictures of it. 72 there was no ss monte's only custom which had everything a ss had in 70 and 71. the 70 looks to be a late run car since its vinyl top goes all the way to the windshield like the 71 and 72 model's. The 70 looks to be a nice car and a good price. As for rot the vinyl top hides a lot along with the side trim. Weight wise a monte will come in at 3600lbs and go up depending on the options. I know where a yellow monte with a tan top is for $6,500 and it has seen the track.

Cool, does that guy have an ad, or do you have his phone number?

I was thinking a big block would be more desirable in one of these hefty cars.

But back to the first ad I posted, although I have no pictures. Lets say the car was absolutely flawless from how the guy described it, what would the max amount you would pay for that car be? 8k? It is NOT an SS car, therefore imo that asking value is almost twice what I think it is worth, but I don't know too much about Monte pricing, so I wouldn't know!

andrew here is the post for the car http://www.racingjunk.com/category/...om/category/18/Complete_Race_Cars/post/1493475/1972-monte-street-strip-car.html the last owner of it is a member of the fgmcc and has ran it down the track. motor is a 355 small block with a set of vortec heads 350 trans with a 3.31 gear don't know why the new owner put 3.55 down for a gear. it has a fiber glass cowl induction hood on it. if you want an SS car take a look at this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=190295057440#ht_500wt_1549 that one belongs to a member from fgmcc that needs to sale to keep his company a float.

Robert, thanks so much for that link!

The yellow one is badass, I just sent him a message. It seems he owns a paint shop, so hopefully the body is in ship shape!

How much would you guys offer him for that car?

that sir, is a bitchin car, love the cowl hood....
it definitely is.

although I am worried about vinyl and excessive rain... does anyone have experience with that?

I am still in the market for chevelles, but the cheapness of the Montes make them so much more appealing...:(

vinyl tops can be a can of worms. i just bought a car with vinyl, it's from oregon, and has no bumps, and i've seen some socal tops that definately have cancer under them. i don't know what the trick is. if you can treat the roof with silica or just make sure they are sealed properly.

i have to tell you, most of the monte's i've seen didn't have vinyl, but it could have been a regional thing. i think you looking for a fringe car, makes good sense. monte carlo's ( i love the look of a good first gen. car. skylarks, cutlass, lemans, tempest, some grand prix's. there are some great cars for great prices. i went to a local thing saturday night, my little lemans drew the biggest crowd. i still want a chevelle, but i couldn't have bought near as much chevelle as i did lemans. so for now, i have a cool ride, and hopefully down the road, i'll have a neat chevelle...

67 Rat thanks for that notice

Bill, what do you mean by fringe cars?
Do you guys all agree that with this budget in mind I would get way more car for a monte than I would with a chevelle? Chevelle's are my first love, I feel odd going for something else after looking for one for so longgg but they seem like a prestige of muscle maybe too out of reach for a 19 year old. But then again there are a few other young guys on here like Bowtie Aaron for example with beautiful cars!

Also, Robert, where is MI, Missouri? or Michigan? I am Canadian:D
Does he have a number or anything like that? you seem like quite the go to guy for montes! you have been popping up with info non stop!

Vinyl tops are soooo badass imo!

That guy who promised me some more pictures of his car said he will take them midweek. He says it has SS badges so I asked him to take a picture of the VIN that way I can decode it.

Andrew don't worry about the SS badges on the side trim the last year you could get an SS Monte is 71. The only thing the vin will be able to tell you is if it was a big block car or a small block car. The guy is in Michigan here is the guys website http://www.koniksklassiks.com/ . The last picture I posted is my Monte. Depending on where you are looking you can find deals on first gen Monte's here is one in Ohio http://www.firstgenmc.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=189307#Post189307 saw this car at the clubs meet last year.

Robert, what is your name over on that forum?

Also I just figured out the 72 thing right before you posted

That link to that guys car I have seen. He emailed me already, but he wants more than I can give him...

andrew, i've been making $ on fringe cars for years, what some of us consider fringe cars, are the lower version of the holy grail cars instead of a gto, i have a lemans, instead of a 442, i had a cutlass. you can find very clean fringe cars, and some of them have similiar equiptment as the grail cars. you get the flavor of the monsters without the stress of someone nicking it.

now if you shop really hard, you can get a fringe car, for a decent price. drive it for a while and maybe make a few $. the last several cars i bought, i made a couple grand on them each. not getting rich, but i get to drive cool cars, and then move on. the car i have now, is a big block, big trans, a/c, p/s, p/b, bucket seat floor shift car, and i got it for a third of what the grail model would have run me.

look we all want an ss. or a yenko car, a 442, etc. but some of us don't have the $ or talent to own these types of cars. and one thing you'll learn on this site, these are car guys, they've helped me with everything from my el camino, to my fairlane. they are car guys, and damn smart ones at that...even with the purcahse of my lemans, these guys gave good advice, and didn't discourage me, just because it didn't say chevelle on it.

if you hunt really hard, you'll find a monte carlo, malibu, cutlass, skylark, etc, that will fit your bill, till you can get the car of your dreams. i think you'd be surprised how many of us own these types of cars. there are plenty of cutlass, skylark, malibu owners on this site, and many have cars that are just incredible, also, many have mopars. you see this isn't an elitist site. these guys know a cool car when they see it, and it doesn't always have an ss on the side...
