I wasted a good set of Hooker comp headers trying to run around with smallblock springs on my 72. I have to admit they hung down a little farther than my Dynomax headers do, but it didnt take much, even a bump on the interstate and the sparks would fly out the back end.

New springs work ok....BUT once they are broken in, be it old ones or new ones...small block springs allow too much travel and are somewhat dangerous I'd say...big block springs are a must. Thats the reason that the general put them on to begin with. Pony up the cash for the right springs.

Have a 66 chevelle small block, put new small block spring in and it sat to high, put big block springs in and cut the first full ring off the spring and it sets real good and a 1 inch sway bar. It handles great. Cutting the first ring off dropped it two inches.
