Yeah, the only thing I hate about living here is the sucky air for racing.

The general rule of thumb is that cars here will run about .750 secs faster when at sea level.

The NHRA pro stock cars all go about 8-10 mph slower.
13 mph min slower, !/2 slower ET in a man trans totally efficent state of the art drag car.

I don't have experience with high altitude. Is the altitude that much worse than running in the high heat /high humidity that we've been experiencing all summer at these lower elevations?

FYI, here's the link for dragtimes Et calculator.

This is the correction factor for 5500 feet altitude, Denvers 5800 with a DA over 9000 feet. .9315 X 12.33 = 11.48
I gotta feel pretty good about that in my low c/r street car. ^^^

60' 1.699
330 4.974
1/8 mph 87.29
1000 10.241
E.T. 12.334
MPH 107.78

Well you could look at it that way, or you could look at it this way, your showing about 375 HP if your car weighs 3900 pounds, that means it makes about 500 HP on my dyno corrected. This is also a good way to look at it, you have room for improvements with an aluminum headed big block. I know of a certain 9.6 comp hyd cammed, iron headed 467 that shows 440 HP on that same track :D. Bottom line, when you pull into the staging lanes at Bandimere, how many full dress chevelles do you see running low 12s normally aspirated with 454s? VERY FEW, your running just fine, but think of the possibilitys.

Isn't that your car you're talking about? ;)

How the heck does that engine make that much power up here?

What are some improvements I can make? Like a $500 vacuum evac pump? :p

You need to move away from the bolt ons, you need to seal that engine up, make it bigger to help the air speed through the engine, I think 11.50s could easily be done in Denver. 11.50 @ Denver X .9315= 10.71 @ sea level.

There is another way to look at your times. You say cars with the same 60' run a higher MPH so is something "wrong" with your car. You could also look at it reverse. Look at the cars that run the same MPH as you and you will see that your car 60's a heck of a lot better than theirs!

Converter makes a big difference for sure. I ran 12.05 at 113 with an old combo. Did nothing more than change converter and went 11.94 @ 110! Go figure....

Jay I don't know if the altitude will make the car MPH different in relation to your ET but mine started out at 12.60 @ 110. I pulled out some old slips and the low 12's was getting me 112. When it first dipped into the high 11's the MPH was in the 114/115 range.

This was mostly at Fontana in 3000-4000' air. At the time it was a stock ZZ502, 3650 lbs, 3:42 gears, 60's in the 170's and a tight 3500 Coan 10" converter. I'm thinkin' the MPH was due to the cubic inches so yours should be pretty close...FWIW...Dave

Mark, I think we need to talk more about this in detail before next years racing season.

My goal has always been to be an 11.5 sec car at Bandimere with no poweradders on pump gas.
