I see over and over again, cars with 60' times equal to, or slower than mine and yet their trap speeds and ET times are faster. What could be causing this for me?

60' = 1.699
ET = 12.33
Trap speed = 107.x

Should my trap speed be higher when considering my 60'?

Maybe your converter is slipping on the big end.....or maybe the motor only makes about 400hp.....could be either or. Doesn't take a lot of HP to 60' well but it does take HP to mph well.

Many years ago I built a Pontiac 406" that was a budget build. In a 3700lb raceweight 78 Trans Am it ran 12.00s@108 with 1.58-1.62 60's. That was with a cheap 10" boss Hogg 3200 converter and 3.42 gears....

All that big Pontiac torque and loose converter made for a good launching car but it had no hp (maybe 400-425hp) and no mph. Just the way it was.... I ran that car like that for many years. Always ran the same.

Usually a better 60' time will cause lower mph. If teh car spins the tire it allows the engine to get up in the rpm range quicker. If it hooks the tire it can lug the engine down and have to wait for it to come back up. The difference here is tire spin causes a higher speed and loss of E.T.

Post all your incrementals from the run(definitely 1/8th ET and MPH) and your combo. There may be a problem....or could be that everything is fine, and your car just happens to work really well on the holeshot(compared to the others you have seen), but doesnt have enough horsepower to make more than 107 MPH.

Doesn't look way off to me. Are you spinning at the line at all ?

No tire spin at all.

I will post all the time slip numbers later this evening since I don't have it with me right now.

I just want to make sure I don't have a problem somewhere if all those numbers look funky or not.

And on a different subject real quickly, would using some Mobil 1 15/50 oil help me with my engine oil burning problem? I'm pretty sure it's the rings, but haven't had time to do a leakdown test yet.

My chevelle ran a 12.97@ 107.8mph with a 1.97 60". Mostly because of my gearing and no bottom end but it pulled hard up top. Most other cars I have seen run around your times are closer to 110mph. Like someone else said though... really would like to see your combo.

Friends of mine are always asking me why their car takes off way ahead of me and my car runs them down with less power. Its because most of them put in a Mt. Everest-high stall torque converter and think it will make their car a "race car"l:) I keep telling them that no a 5500 stall on their stock cam 350 will NOT work:clonk:

So if my convertor is too loose, that might be an issue for me?

DAMN....your car would probably run 11.90s@110-111 in our winter air....(0' or better)

That's a strong one to run 107 at 8500'.:thumbsup:
Yeah, the only thing I hate about living here is the sucky air for racing.

The general rule of thumb is that cars here will run about .750 secs faster when at sea level.

The NHRA pro stock cars all go about 8-10 mph slower.

My 65 runs just this past weekends event was 11.75,11.74 11.75 all 1.59 1.59. 1.60 at 113 mph. lost first round to a better lite and I ran out of track...all in all the car is so constant it is what it is!

I get almost exactly those same numbers. Actually my 60' is a couple hundredths lower even. I'm pretty sure my converter has more slippage than most on the top end, but I just figured my car leaves harder than most 12-second cars. I wasn't concerned, but now I wonder...

It could be your problem.... but also just noticed the altitude. Thats a good run!

One of my friends that has that stock 350 I mentioned that has a th350 and a 5500 stall. It only flashes to about 4000 with the whopping 200 something hp. It takes off decent but it is still slipping right before he shifts it so he has nothing after about a 150 feet.

A 12.33 will be a 105.7 mph in a car that worke good with a faster 60f than a 1.69, now you have to consider your in Denver, so for a street car thats not optimized your numbers are fine, thats an 11.50 car down low.
