on my 71 when I turn the key and get the car started first time it runs fine. but if I niss the first start turn the key back off and turn it to start again it will never start and then will not start for hours. Eventually I will be able to start the car but I have to go with one key stroke.

Is that something common?
is there a problem with my starter coil (taking to much time to charge) etc...
Any idea what is wrong
Thanks for your help

Check the connection to the fuse box. That is your 12v going to your distributor. Check the fuse in the circuit that the wire is connected to. One time my car wouldn't start. I tried jumping it and everything. I had it towed and it ended up being a burnt out fuse were the 12V wire leads to. That cost me $200 to diagnose that. Fun times.

okay I found something, there are two kind of relays between the glove box and the firewall one red wire there going behind the dash to the fuse box was loose, and it was attached to the acc or bat terminal. if I connect this cable directly to 12V of the battery I hear it trip and everything is starting just fine consistantly.
I am looking at the wiring diagram manual and can't find anything except that my wiring is really far from original...
any idea welcome.
thx

the second time I just hear the relay under the dash trip and the HOT led goes red for blink of time and nothing.

could it be that the safety neutral switch is blocking the start?
in that case the fact that it work the first time and not the second would be just luck on how the column is set when I turn the key... just thinking out loud.
