I ordered the ballast resistor, so I’ll let y’all know when I get it on (should be here the 28th).
I tried turning on the lights high beam and brake lights and that helped one time but next time I tried it I got just a little run on , not as much soooo idk

It does sound like you are heading tin the right direction. After I installed the Holley Sniper and Hyperspark, it wouldn't turn off with the key although it was wierd correctly. For some reason after the install my alternator was back feeding 6 volts through the system, just enough to keep running. The fix was to put in a diode at the alternator. Good luck, hopefully that will do it.

Hey guys, I have zz383 , 750 DP, Mallory unilite, MSD 6A
Initial timing 19BTC
Idle ~950 RPM

The car runs good at 950 RPM with the manual transmission, but always runs on or diesels (I guess you would call it) after I turn the key off. I’ve even tried backing off the timing retarding it about 2°. But it doesn’t help I can set the idle back down to about 600 RPM , then it shuts off with the key like it should, but I don’t get the throttle response off idle and the clutch doesn’t act as good as when the idle is set at 950 RPM, and it smells better with the higher idle speed.
My question is - how do I keep my car from running on after I turn it off with my idle at 950 RPM. (Very annoying and embarrassing)
TIA
Push the brakes and let's the clutch out fast it won't keep idling! the carb is too big for a 383 a 650or a 680 cfm is perfect for 383ci it would be better for awesome throttle response unless you have a camshaft with a very tight lobe separation angle and 4 Degrees advanced ground into it with 6 inches of vacuum and a 2.5 power valve with manual brakes!

Point is the carb is the problem as said before everything else I went thru trial by fire!

Hi 66dream. I have a couple of questions for you if you don’t mind. Have you ever owned a 70 Chevelle? I was researching mine the other day. I posted the Rear axle number on Google. CCF1212B1. What came up was a post by you asking the same question with the exact same numbers!!I going to say it was back in 2005? I would love to find a previous owner to either varify or debunk some if the history of my car. Thanks so much for your time.

The first 3 letters is all you need. Yours was for a 3:31 12 bolt posi (L34/402 & L48/350-4)
The numbers are month built and assembly plant.

Ya, I didn’t have an issue decoding, I was more interested in talking with 66dream to see if he may have owned this car previously. But what I am taking away is that there could be the same axle numbers. Built 12/12 Buffalo plant 1 st shift . Seems a bit far fetched to see another with exactly same numbers. I’m sure they made more than 1 a day so it’s certainly possible.

Can you backtrack the vin thru motor vehicle for it's history?

Put one of those electric idle solenoids on it like they used in the 70's to bump the idle up when you turned the AC on. Then you can just flip a switch to lower the idle speed before shut down.
