Hey guys, I recently had my speedometer go out on me on my 72 and I replaced the speedometer cable thinking it was that but it still doesn't spin when I throw it in drive so I'm thinking it's the box on the tranny, but anyway, my real question: I'm trying to get this **** cable to go into the back of my dash and I can hardly see what's going on back there in the first place. I've taken every bolt and screw in sight out in attempt to remove the dash and could only get the top dash cover off (the easy part). To get the old cable out there was some kind of clip that a guy at AutoZone helped me with (former mechanic from the GM dealer) and now I just can't seem to get the new one to go back in. Both cables are identical and I've tried putting all my might into it and can't get it to snap in or anything. Am I doing something wrong? Any ideas on getting the dash torn apart so I can see something? Thanks in advance.

Bryce,

I just recently did the same thing, but I was doing the SS gauge swap. I think the clip on back has to be pushed in towards the speedo. Then you push on the cable all the way and release the clip. I don't think the cable actually snaps anywhere there. If there isn't enough tension on the clip bend it away from the speedo a little then try the above procedure. That's what I had to do. I hope that made sense.
Good luck.

Thanks, that made perfect sense when remembering how everything goes together back there. I'll give that a try and see what happens and keep everyone updated. Any other responses or thoughts would be great! Thanks!
