Round dash cluster, what size wires to amp

Am converting 71 sweep dash to SS round/tach gauges. Pin #3 and Pin #4 of the cluster plug go to the amp gauge . What size wire goes to each of these?
If the amp is like a residential electric meter, all the current will go thru the amp which necessarily suggests to me that an 8 or 10 gauge wire is needed to each pin. However I am not aware of how much current goes thru the amp.
Any one know the answer?

The factory put 14 ga with 18 ga fusible link wire at the ends.

The key is "all the current" does not go through the meter.
Because of the way it's connected, only a small percentage of the current flows through it.

Don't know the wire size, maybe 16 ga.
