Swapped to a 4 speed, and dont want to see the automatic gear selector on the speedo. What have some people done to change that? I swapped out to a 4 speed tilt column as well. Does the speedo need swapped? Did GM use the same ones with just a blank off plate for the 4 speeds? Site wasn't much help when searching.

Assuming you are talking about a 1970 Malibu, the speedometer must be changed to look correct. However, I have seen where some people just make some sort of block off plate.

I'd like to set the space up with a shift light or something then. Silly to me to replace the speedo for that. It's not a 100 inspection car. Thanks.

You can also just paint the lens black.

Assuming we are discussing the sweep dash, the lower part with the indicator lights has to be changed. It can be changed without removing the dash. The 3 screws holding it in place come out from the front. The steering column needs to be dropped to get to 2 extra screws the auto gear indicator has. I have one of each on the bench if you would like photos.

On my 71 Malibu, I removed the PRNDL and painted the indicator lens black.

Im sorry, I never mentioned its a SS dash that has round gauges. As if everyone knows what I have.
