removing mouse urine from seat foam

when i was living at my parents house i would always get feild mice in my car over the winter unless i prepared it with dryer sheets or something to keep the mice away (which actually works for a short time).

well last year (oct 11) i decided to do a manual to auto swap on the car, and did not expect it to take me 15 months to complete, in that time i worked on a bunch of other peoples cars, and bought a house of my own. you might be able to see where im going. i never did anything to mouse-ize the car.

fast forward to a month ago when i was finally able to work on the car again. i pulled the back seat out and because the inside of the car stinks of mouse urine, and there are poop droppings all over the trunk floor. (i guess i dont have it sealed off as well as i thought).

when i pulled the seats there were a few huge nests mainly between the back rests and the trunk divider. in the past i never let this stuff sit so long, so the stench was never really noticable.

i cleaned everything up, sprayed everything with bleech to try and disinfect everything.

my question is is there anyway that i can try to remove the smell without actually buying new foam? will baking soda do the trick? or oxy-clean stuff?

anyone have any of this experience?

thanks

I'd doubt there's anything that'll remove it well enough, just depends on what you can tolerate. The field mice are a huge problem this time of year in my area also...no cat. :( I tried those bounce sheets and the mice squeezed right by it into my kitchen faucet area. Since, I've resorted to the old style spring traps, caught 6 of the varments so far in 2 weeks!! So far they haven't got into the garage.

You may want to try the Pet Stain & Odor remover for carpets in the spray bottles. Try the Resolve Brand- Pet Oxi Advanced. Stuff does a tremendous job getting most pet stains out of the carpet. I would try saturating the infected area with this stuff. It has a nice smell also along with the cleaning power.

I have used Fabreeze for several problems, and it seemed to take care of odors pretty well (not just mask them)...

I had mice/rats clean peanut butter off a very sensative spring trap without setting off the trap... I ended up buying an electric rat trap... Worked so well, I bought a second... Battery operated, but uses a capacitor...

Its a pretty strong jolt (ask me how I know :D)...

I have a bad problem this year, but I think I have it now restricted to my shed... Had some in the attic, but used poison, and so far so good (need to seal up a few access points)... So far, the '70 Chevelle is clean, I did however notice seat stuffing being pulled out of the '66 seats (needs full resto on those anyway)...

This means war...

Thanks guys.

I know this stuff stinks, and could potentially make you sick, but the car fund money is gone after buying the house, and finishing my auto swap. I did notice tmi sells what seems like back seat foam kits for 75-100 bucks, which is a great deal compared to the $200 I saw at ground up.

I think I'll try the resolve stuff and see how it goes. I have until march to let the stuff soak and "clean "

Thanks
