Is it possible to use a rectangle port intake
on oval port heads? A friend told me that he
did and received better mid range torque.
I told him he was nuts!

Yes, it has been done. And done well on a certian 10 second / Big block Chevelle. If you have the heads and manifold already, I would not hesitate to use that combination. Craig

Yes, it can be done, just make sure you use the intake gasket for the square port intake on the oval port heads. I ran this combo for several years on my 396. It ran fine, but.....I did notice a lack of bottom end torque. I changed it over to a cast iron oval port intake with a Holley pattern. I've got the bottom end torque now. The aluminum intake looks cool, but I'm sold on matching up the intake to the heads now. rb6667 ;)

I did it too. rb6667 is right. I lost torque too. And I think hp all over the band. I epoxied the intake and gasket matched it to the heads and got the lost power back. Do a search on this subject. It's been discussed here many times.
