A 12-bolt with all the internal goodies and a girdle will stand up to a lot of horsepower and are typically used in many 9 second cars. The ultimate rear end for strength and minimum torque drag is the Dana 60.

Strange S60 with a Det locker. Comes with 35 spline axles, 1350 saddle, big f*rd bearings, and 1/2 inch studs. Strange says its good for 1200 hp. I think you can get it with the locker for $1900. Sell your 12 bolt and you may only be out a few bucks! You'll never have to think about your rearend again! ;)

X2!...You should be ok with a properly built 12 bolt axle (spool, axles, tube braces and girdle cover). Also, I think that the guys who are using a Ford 9" instead of a Dana 60 do so because he Dana is too heavy.
Personally, I'm still using the original 8.5" 10 bolt axle on my Buick Grand National (with Moser spool and axles) and am running in the high 9's with it without any issue.

Claude. ;)
