This is a used 3:08 GM gearset I put in. Backlash was set at .008.

Does it look ok?

I think it's just a touch deep. Try taking a little off the pinion shim to see what it does.

I'd take about .002 out of the pinion shim. It's very close right now.

I agree. .002"-.003" should do it, and it's so close now that you'll need to make sure that after you make the adjustment, that it wasn't too much. If it ends up looking worse than what you habe now, then you'll need to go back to the shim thickness that you have. It will likely end up better though. I would remove anymore than .003" though. Like it's been said, you're pretty close now. But you want the best pattern possible. It's better that you play around with it now when you have everything apart then having to take it aprt after finishing the job because of gear noise.
