No they are not the same. If they came out of a 68 they should look like this. They are not the same as a 70-72 would have. 68 had a steel panel that was covered in vynal. Most 68 cars did not have these. The 68 Concours did, Malibu did not. The 70-72 used a plastic panel that had a grain look to it with metal filler panel that went between the rear seat and the rear trim panel. The 70-72 panel is shaped totally different, but looks similar to what is shown in the picture. The repros I have seen are not made like the originals. Find a nice set of originals in plastic.

those look like they are for a convertible.are we talking about hard top or convertible?the original poster does not say

68-72 convertibles also have a narrower rear seat and use what looks to be the same lower armrest base.i never knew that they put a narrow rear seat in a hardtop only in convertibles.so is it safe to assume that 68 concoures rear seats/armrest base are the same as a 68-72 convertible?

ps do you have any pictures of this install on a 68 concoures chevelle?i would bet not to many people have seen this type of set up in a hardtop.

No, I do not have any pictures. I converted a concours interior to a Malibu interior years ago. The concours interiors were not available , so had to change to Malibu seat covers and rear seat and door panels. The rear seat was shorter to fit the panels along the edge of the seat. Also the concours had a longer front arm rest on the door panels. Had concours steering wheel emblem and concours dash emblem. These panels on the concours are not the same as the 70-72 Chevelle. They are straight along the bottom and the 70-72 is formed different with a notch and is made of plastic. They are not the same as a convertible either for 68-72.

Here are a few pictures of the backseat area including the armrests of one of my '68 Concours 2dr Sport Coupes. Oldsmobile coded (765-980) interior. I have more pictures if you need them.

Wow, this can get confusing. Generally a 68 coupe would have a flat rear door panel and a wide rear seat. 300s and Concourses have the 70-72 Chevelle and Montes which are the vynil covered steel and the spacers that follow the sides of the narrower seats. I was killing myself over the interior as the car had the narrow seats and I needed the wide seat, or so I thought. The seats were original I believed and I had parted out a 72 402 Monte the year before so I had the parts. I had my interior guy narroe the PUI seat covers and went to town. Mine originally had a light blue and plaid Old interior but nothing was useable. So I cheated but came out right. All I need now is a short black knobbed shorty window crank. I already blew $85 on an ashtray, $55 for a nice lighter, and $106 for a mint knobbed AM radio to fill the hole.

And it flies.

As I explained earlier in this thread, the side panels for a 68 Concours are different than what the 70-72 monte used. The Monte is noched on the bottom and the 68 is pretty much straight. The bodys are built different. 70-72 has a brace. I have attached a picture of 70-72 Monte panels.

I just took my rear seat and panels out of my '71 yesterday and the panels are identical to these except for the vinyl covers. The seats in my car are original as the back seat is cloth covered. I'm not sure if the dimensions are the same but everything else looks the same as your '68 panels.

The 70-72 Chevelle and Monte panels will interchange, but the Monte were steel covered with vynal. Not plastic as the 70-72 Chevelle. The 68 Chevelle panels will NOt interechange with the Chevelle or Monte for 70-72, as they are formed different. Shown in the pictures I have attached to this thread. I hope this clears up any confussion.

Wow guys thanks for all the info and pics. I have a 68 chevelle concours with the narrow seat and am looking for the lower door panels and seat filler strips. If anyone knows where i might find some let me know please. Untill I seen these pics, I didn't even know what i was looking for.

I'm restoring my '70 Chevelle Malibu 2 door coupe. It has the original rear side panels and armrest.
1) The arm rest are plastic, no covers of any kind and they are made with a grain type finish, with a chrome ashtray.
2) The space between the rear seat back and rear side panel is covered by a curved (on one end) metal piece. That metal piece attaches to the arm rest(the straight end of the metal spacer), and then the curved end attaches to the interior cabin sheet metal by one screw.
3) Side panel then arm rest. Remember to attach the straight end of the spacer (between seat back and side panel)to the arm rest then install it as one piece.

Hope this helps.
