On pre'68 BB power steering, the pump has a 3/4" nipple/tube sticking out of the top of the housing. I noticed it leaking at the track Friday. It appears to have pulled out 1/4" or so, probably when I tossed the alternator belt and hastily installed it in the dark. I'm thinking that the alt swung long in the adjustment slot and pushed on the feed hose from the reservoir.

There is a barb like flare on the tube that looks like it should be what stops the tube from being pressed too far into the pump housing. Currently, that barb is about a 1/4" away from resting against the pump.

My questions;
Should that barb be seated against the housing?
Is the tube a press fit or actually braised/welded in place?

I'm wondering if I can just tap it back into place or do I have to pull and dissassemble as not to destroy the seals with a necessary "hot" repair.

You will likely have to separate the pump housing from the actual pump and have the neck soldered back on. as long as the hose is over the nipple and secured it should be on far enough. The belt likely broke the joint loose when it made contact. I had one soldered once at a local radiator shop. Dan

The barb in question is not the one on the end for the hose, rather, mid tube, towards the pump side. I'm thinking that the tube should be far enough into the pump housing that the barb sits against it. I can't see solder or brass filler, but that's how I thought that the two were joined.
