Maybe this belongs under Tag Team, but I'll start here. I am trying to decode the #'s on a 1967 Firestone red-line Wide Oval tire to determine its manufacture date.

The web is full of info on the date code format for DOT coded tires (1973 to present). But I cannot find anything on pre-DOT coded Firestones. (I did find the date code info for pre-DOT Goodyears, but not Firestones.)

Can anyone help, or point me in the right direction?

For info if anyone is interested, below is the Goodyear info. The date is in the first two digits of the code that is cast in the sidewall and looks like a little plate that was screwed onto the tire mold:

First digit
M or Z =66
K or Y =67
L or T =68
J or U =69
E or W =70
H or X =71
G or S =72

Second digit
T=Jan
U=Feb
F=Mar
S=Apr
Y=May
N=Jun
P=Jul
A=Aug
C=Sep
K=Oct
E=Nov
R=Dec

Talk about a screwy system!! Notice July to December spells PACKER. Maybe a Green Bay fan devised the system!

Try sending an email to Firestone Customer Service. I did that for a pair of late 1960's vintage Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires that I had (Uniroyal is owned by Michelin these days) and I got a reply in short order. I guess some others have not been so fortunate with Uniroyal/Michelin, but it worked for me.
