Who's going to do your paint and what brand do they shoot? Go with the brand that whoever is doing the work is familar with. Both Dupont and PPG are excellent but they both require there own expertise to shoot. Contrary to what others have told me, I have only had trouble when I've used one brand for the primer and the other brand for the paint.

I have to tell you something, ALL paints from the major manufacturers are so close in technoligy it isn't funny. Each may have a little difference but in the real world if you get two competing products (remember to compare apples with apples, Dupont Chromabase should be compared with DBC not DBU as an example) You will find they may be just a smiggin different in application, but in techmology they are kissing cousins.
Most painters are "stuck on" a brand...so let them choose. It may be irrational, but they also feel more comfortable with a brand and that is real, so use the product your painter wants to use. DON'T ever ask a painter to use a brand he is not used to. When there is a problem, no matter what HE did, the paint will be blamed.

I'm a do-it-yourselfer and this is what I did. I visited a few of the auto paint stores in my area and asked questions. I told them I was doing a resto on my 72 Elky, and wanted a brief run down on thier products and/or any advice they could give me. Some of the people just pointed to something and said "use that". I left very quickly. I ended up finding a store than sold PPG paint. They were great. They explained the different primers, primer surfacers, base and clears. They were open on weekends and just very helpful. So thoughout the bodywork on my Elky, I used only PPG products, and my Elky turned out better than I ever thought it would. The stuff isn't cheap, so keep the receites away from the wife!

I stripped the Elky down to bare metal, and cut out any rust. I welded in new patch panels and sprayed PPG DP50. I did all the necessay bodywork and sprayed PPG NCP271, a great primer surfacer. After finally getting it as straight as I could (don't ask how long it took me) I sparayed PPG Deltron 2000 DBC base and PPG Concept 2021 Clear.

Good Luck on your project.

Take Care,

Another thing to remember, what is closer to you? Do have an auto body supply store near by? If not, NAPA carries Martin Seneor. Excellent products and good tech sheets. Plus, anything you need to know about the product line will be answered here quickly!
Ask the store for a 'Cash' Jobber account. Cash just means you pay as you go with money credit card or check. Save some $$$

Thanks Jimmy and Jimmy P. I live in a small town in Northern Mich. Closet City is about 30 miles. But that is no big deal. The closest Dupont supplier is over 65 miles so that it self means that I will go with PPG. I have dealt with this auto parts dealer for over 10 years so that helps the decision also. Thanks
