Wasnt to sure where to post this so its in the general section, I Purchased a power steering conversion kit from a supplier and it seems that the pump hits the alternator bracket, it is limiting the amount of travel to tighten or loosen the belt everything I purchased was for a BB and seems to bolt on fine but clearance seems to be a problem if anyone has run into this or has a powersteering set up and they can shoot me some close up pictures maybe it might help, I realy want to cruise but this punch list is killing me PLEASE HELP !

It is a remote reservoir and pump for 67 BB

I just went through this but only it was on a small block.
can you wrap a string around the pulleys in a position that would work, then go to your local parts store and ask for a belt of that length (keep in mind the length called out on the new belt is for the outside length not the inside so you need to subtract a small amount). Then try it, if you need to get a slightly different length then return the first one.

Tom...my '66 uses a 3/8 x 50" belt(which is the correct size for a '68-'72 "C"
series truck BB... can you guess where my PS stuff came from?)..same size
belt is listed for '68 Chevelle w/396. 1966/67 are supposed to use 3/8 x 49".
Gates belt # 7500 or 7490. Dayco 15500/15490(Dayco is a touch wider...15/32.) Hope this helps.

If the P/S pump has the reservoir attached to it..... that might be your problem. If so you may have to go with a remote reservoir unit, this will give you enough room for the swing.

I went through this HELL on my 67 BB power steering set up, Took me a month to straighten it out. I had to make adjustments to both the lower alternator bracket and the upper power steering pump bracket. It is not an easy task. I ended up buying 5 belts until I got the one that was just right then returned the 4 that didn't work, This set up only allows the power steering pump to move a very small amount. I also had to shim the brackets and pullies to get it to fit right. I say go with manuel steering and save yourself a major headache. Also there are different lower alternator brackets with different angels make sure you have the right one.

Well its to late to go back to manual steering :( I also had a heck of a time getting the power steering adjusting bracket to fit right I had to grind the heck out of to clear, I am interested in the statement about 2 angles of lower alt brackets I show only 1 listing. That is my whole problem the pump body is hitting the lower bracket leaving at least 2 inches of adjustment that can not be used. Interesting !!!!! but it might be back to the grinding wheel
Thanks oh and BTW I do have the remote res.

I ground a pretty good size section out of my lower alt. bracket. If I remember correctly the bracket has a trianlge shaped mold between to of the mounting posts. I ground that out to give the power steering pump some more movement. There are different brackets, I have different ones sitting on my shelf right now. Even if you have the correct one it must be ground, a real pain I know!!!!!Where are you located?
