hey all. just built a 400 for a guy for his chevelle. engine is +.040 forged pistons, 9.5:1 compression, comp cams kit 220-224 @ .050, performer intake, and brand new bg road demon 625 dual feed. i started the engine fine broke in cam , but it was extremly rich at fast idle and would not run at all with choke open. after breaking cam in engine will not idle at all. it acts like i have a big vacum leak but i cant find one any where. float levers are right in the middle of the sight glass.needle and seat are fine.so after about 3 hours of messing with it i put the guys old quadrajet back on and it started up and idled fine and ran great and it wasnt rich anymore. I disassembled the new demon and could not find anything wrong with it. i have build race engines for 12+ years and have always like demon race carbs but never done much with street cars. and ideas or advice would be greatly appricetied

tom already checked that out gasket looks good on intake and on carb, the intake is for a spread bore carb and the carb is square bore, purchased adapter plate from edelbrock which they recommend, i tried it with and with out adapter same result, as well as sprayed carb cleaner around the base to see if engine speed increased and nothing, but thanks for the advice

Jesse, I feel your pain. I'm going through the same thing with a 750 dp holley. I read up a bunch wednesday about the idle circuit and the transition slots have to be .020 square. If they are, then the air bleeds are to small for the idle circuit. They need to opened up to receive more air. I am by no means an expert from reading for a full day, but my 750 dp runs a lot cleaner tonight.

vacuum leak around the baseplate somewhere? turn the carb over, check the gasket that it covers the bottom of the carb properly. Then try the same gasket on the manifold, same check.

PCV and PB booster hooked up?
