Non Chevelle - Refrigerator Question.

Have an older side by side Kenmore fridge. The freezer works fine but the fridge part is not near as cold as it should be. Could this be low on freon & still freeze stuff in freezer? I hace vacummed off the "fins" and it seemed to help a little. Every once & a while the stuff is actually as cold as it used to be. Any ideas?

Mine has been doing the same type of thing , the repairman said the defrost system was bad and the whole unit was like a block of ice, with a heat gun he defrosted it and unplugged it for 15 mins then started it back up . he said it would do it again so keep the setting low as possible and look for another fridge because it has 1 circuit board to run everything and its cheaper to buy a new fridge, its a JennAir 7 yrs old. Im getting a second oppinion!

I had a defrost problem too, it would freeze and the fridge side would be warm. :( There is a vent from the freezer side that gets iced over and won't let cool air into the fridge side.

I replaced the defrost element (real problem) and the timer switch (not the problem). Replacing the defrost element is pretty easy, as mine was located inside the freezer side, along the back wall behind a metal cover.
