Hello fellow members New to site. Just completed a 66 Chevelle restomod. I have built many Chevelles in the past 40+ years and have finally put together one for myself that I intend to keep forever. I have gained a lot of knowledge through my years as a auto technician and auto body man and believe I can :smile2: contribute positively to the tech forums. Just posted pics in my garage of my latest project.

Howdy Mark.
Very clean '66 Malibu build. I am the proverbial 'Newbie" to this site and to the world of rebuilding these beauties.
I just bought a '66 Chevelle 396SS from my late brother-in-laws estate and plan to complete the rebuild that he didn't get the chance to do. See my garage for more info/pix.
I have been immersing myself on forums and youtube for the last few months learning as much as I can so I don't screw anything up.
I am currently verifying all numbers (VIN, engine(s), trans, frame, etc) to determine if in fact this is an original numbers matching car or not. Confusing so far.
Just received the 'original' 396 - 325hp engine back from an engine shop that took it apart to determine condition after sitting around out of the car for at least 40yrs. The good news is that the block is great condition, never bored out, no cracks. The heads are in great condition, no cracks. It did have non-stock pistons and camshaft in it though.
Next up is to pull the 396 - 360hp engine and Muncie M-20 (I'm guessing) out of the car and get those checked out.
Any advise from an experienced expert rebuilder like you would be appreciated.

Chris, My advise to you would be to make sure your machine shop is fully capable of performing all tasks to meet your goals of this engine build. I feel that torque plate honing is a must for proper ring seal and that balancing the rotating assembly is key to any engine. Both are essential to a smooth running and tightly sealed assembly.

Welcome Mark. Checked out your pics. That's one to be proud of.
Hey you said you bought as a basket case. You didn't buy if from Avery Auto Salvage, did you? If you did maybe you should of called it project " making a Ford murderer".
Just kidding. Just a dumb joke. Enjoy the site.

:grin2:Brad, LOL No this vehicle came out N.Y. state. You are correct in the fact that Avery auto salvage is just a mere 20 minute drive from where I live. I can honestly say that I dealt with these people in the years past but thats a whole story that I dont have enough time to get into.

Welcome Mark, to Team Chevelle.....:waving:
