Long time no see! I hope everyone is well around here. I haven't checked in lately... this new build is keeping me busy.
While I'm deciding how much to channel it and how to finish up the rear suspension mounts, I've decided to dig into the engine and pick a few parts.

I'm working with a stock rebuild 350. 40 over 4 bolt 010 block, 4-relief flat tops, one 487 head (75cc) and one 441 head (76cc) :p, stock crank/rods, etc. (yeah, it's a bastard engine)
I have an Offy/Rochester tripower setup going on it and it will have a magneto and lake pipes  It's backed up by a TH350 (stock converter) and 3.50 gears.

I am building this car to be able to drive anywhere, so I'm not too concerned about horsepower. But then again, when its done it will be somewhere between 2000-2500 lbs. I know just a little power over stock will probably feel like a good difference.

I am looking for a solid grind that will work with press in rocker studs, low compression, and a stock converter (on second thought, maybe this isn't "performance" at all :clonk: ).

Anyone have any recommendations?

Please consider this one from good old PAW!!

Their $45 SSI house brand solid lifter cam PN 10341!

My cam card say's it's;

280/246, 108/108, .498"/.498" and need's .030" lash on both sides REGARDLESS of what their damn cat. says!! (And I figure that it is actually is this Elgin E-1133-P solid cam!) So is GOOD!!

I figure it will be a cackling AND powerful DD solid lifter cam in a mild 350 motor!!

And a real thumper in my next junk301 type engine I'm going to build for the fun of it onna these days.

Price is right too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell, with 26 exclaimation points, how could I go wrong?! :D

Sounds good to me. I've decided to just throw the long block together for a cheap as possible. Right now, all the expensive parts are removable... so I can get it on the road for a few miles before I swap in a real engine :)

I can't find that part number online (their online catalog suuuuucks) but I'll call them this week.

Matt,

I checked out your updates on the other board. Looking Good!

What's the plans on the valvetrain? With the stock press in studs, stock converter, and low compression I would stay pretty mild.

Any other requirements/desires/limitations for the cam?

Let me know if you need a hand.

Valvetrain plans... pretty much throw it back together. :D
I know, it sounds like the lame way out, but there's a little logic behind it.
The last engine I built (the 383 in my '71) was my first build and I went by the book and paid attention to every detail. This time around, I'm not so concerned with everything. I just want it to run until I make a permanent decision on what to do. I need it to run so I can put some shakedown miles on the car, then when I blow it back apart for paint I'll probably do more engine work.

The engine itself is a stock rebuild (40 over). It has ~15 minutes run time on it. But those minutes were 10 years ago. Last weekend, it was HARD to get this thing to turn over with crank socket and wrench. Well, I tore it apart and it wasnt nearly as bad as I expected.

Here's what the holes look like. There's a little discoloration where the ring packs sat for 10 years but no ridge and after a few revolutions it spins pretty freely.

I'm going to call PAW and see if they have a cheapo house brand grind thats a little more mild than the one PDQ mentioned. Maybe something comparable to Comp's 270S ?

Matt,

That is about the range of cam I would be looking at. You're in the ballpark.

The little Crower as well as Isky's old Z-20 are both right in the 268/270 range and are small solid lifter cams!

And Clevite Cams has this little-bitty solid lifter jewel still out there too! (Hope the link works?)..

PN-229-1998 spec'd at: 258/219/270/229, 114/110, .456"/.479", and need's .022"/.022" lash.

Timing at .050" is: 1° ATC 40° ABC 53° BBC 4° BTC

PS., check Midwest Motorsports for good valvetrain stuff that to me is good value and I would run at least Z-28 springs!

Matt both of the cams i listed are hydraulic but would work great with your setup

remember you have 350 gears and the first cam i listed would be the best choice for the low compression and will have a nice choppy idle

the second choice would also be a very good choice if you're looking for a lil bit more power than the first cam by about 10hp+ more. its up to you but both would be great choices and have that nice hot rod idle
both cams will pull very hard from 2000-5500 and have a 6000 maxrpm

ive run both of them on stock bottom ends and the second one we ran in a 9 to 1 350 with 3000 stall in a 69 camaro and went low 13`s on street tires

i would suggest a 10" 3000 stal torque converter
