JJ code in 67 Ok that makes sense since I have seen rally wheels with JJ code so the std JJ 14x6 wheels i have found are pbly from drum brake 67's with hub caps / wheel covers ... Thanks Mike

Mike, Bruce, Velle Gang,

Mike..... I not going to doubt you. You have been a super friend and 66 resource. I appreciate the pics of the 66 SS steel rims and all the other pics you have sent over the last couple of years.

Bruce, I checked the rims again last night. They only display GM 65 and A & 6 on the left and right side of the valve stems. They are as you mentioned 6 inches rim to rim edge & 5 inches bead to bead. Just gotta love this place! When in doubt or not sure ask or listen to a fellow TC member.

Mike, please send me the rim pics directly on an attached email when you get the time. I have a file that I have been archiving these type of pics from you and others.

Thanks all!

Can't resist being facetious, but - although it is intersting thread, and gives you that tingly feeling to know what you have is all original, - but rims!? :D

 Aren't we taking this correctness to a whole other level? Can't say a judge will get down and check that closely.

That said, if you got 'em, flaunt 'em

You should see the MCC judges when they are judging the OR classes...

Next time try harder. ;)

Trust me, it aint about the judges, it's personal., and as far as original restoration details go and wheel codes taking us to another level? Well, the level has been and IS far beyond wheel codes. Has been for years.

Speaking of JJ codes...Mr Fig is CORRECT....our judges at the MCC are doing a great job and are not afraid to get their knees dirty!!

I am not building a Concours resto BUT IMO something like wheels is a very important to a car guy .. thats why so many aftermarket wheels available....for alot of us who know these cars well we can spot the look and offset that a 66 SS should have, so for me I'm not too concerned if the code is correct but I am concerned that the "look" is correct for a 66 SS so if that means getting JK wheels I will, but if JJ wheels look the same then that's OK in my book

I do it not for the judges but I do understand why some do, I do it for me AND for the other guys who know these cars well, peer approval is my biggest reward.

So yes next time " try harder"

Yep, you'd be surprized what has codes, date codes, etc on them. I do look at that stuff. Although codes may not matter at most shows, they DO matter at the important ones that have state-of-the-art frame-off restos in the show area. Not all classes at the ACES Northeast Regional Show in Maryland are inspected for such details, but if you plan to bring an original restored '66-'67 Chevelle to the party, every detail we can eyeball is gonna be inspected, assuming MR_HEAVY and I get that class again. That goes for the wax that some participants forget to wipe off inside the door jambs! :D

</font>[/QUOTE]I'm careful enough not to piece off the guy that could be judging my 66, that's for sure :D

But in reality...you won't have me to INSPECT this year :( I'll be in the FRONT ROW!

Have I made myself CRYSTAL clear?

For those who may not know it...Rick is one of Judges who gets that Thankless job of judging the orig. restored class of 66 and 67's on a 300 point basis, at the MCC Mid Atlantic Chevelle Regional in June....I may just judge the 69's this year

And Kim will be contacting all of the judges from last year VERY SOON to talk about judging for this year. May have a slightly different way to tackle the judging sheets...

But either way its always fun

question;

How can they see the wheel codes with the hubcaps covering them up?
The serious exhibitors will take a tire/wheels off the car to display suspension detail and, that removed wheel will also have the hub cap removed.

Also, 2 of the past "regulars" in the 66-67 OR class have the dog-dish hub caps on their wheels, so looking at those codes is easy.

Most of the time, the outcome of that class does not require anyone REMOVING any parts of their Chevelles, although one year, I had to remove my air cleaner from my '69.
