The other day I was tracking down a trans leak on a TH400 that's been bothering me all summer. Thought it was just the pan gasket because whole front side of pan stays wet. It turns out that the vacuum modulator is the source of the leak, to be exact, the retainer for the modulator has a crack running from the center of the U shaped cut out to the bolt. The lower leg of the retainer is not putting any pressure on the modulator and this is letting the trans fluid leak around it.

I have found a place on the net that shows them in stock @ $3.98, but freight is $15.00. Other than going to the junk yard, does anyone hear know where one can be had w/o paying 5x's the price of the part in shipping charges? One would think a parts store would carry this item, but apparently they don't break all that often.

Thanks,
Gary

Just took mine in today for that mystifing leak. It has a Derale tubed pan on it so we replaced the gasket a month ago hoping that was it but no luck. Did the same thing as you described, so they replaced the plastic pass thru connector as it was wet so it was running down and forward making the gasket look wet, apppears to be the culprit. Hope thats it, if not I'm going back to a stock pan & gasket with clam groove in it, hopefully it doesnt come to that.
The trans shop had the original GM part in stock, he said they are getting hard to find?? Goog luck
Shipping is becoming damned expensive !!!!!!!
