I had a little tear in my eye yesterday as I purchased a 1971 Chevelle. My first car was a 1972 and I had it for 3 years...after redoing the engine to a 355 400hp building the trans and doing lots of other mods it was continued to be broken into...time and time again destroying the car in the process. I eventually sold it...6 years later here I am buying my dream car again. The Heavy Chevy has always been my favorite. Now with much more money to play with and alot of connections to finish it quickly. I cant wait to take delivery and start diggin into her!

350sbc, about 350hp with about 4000 miles on it....New TH400 trans with a lock up converter, B & M Ratchet Shifter, all brakes have been converted to disk, 12 bolt posi rear end, New radiator setup, Battery relocated to the trunk. All it needs is carpet, new front seats (currently has some newer nissan buckets...blah!) and im going to get a set of Weld Pro Star Wheels. Pulling this motor out, go through it and put her on the dyno to see what she makes...then I will sell it.
Dropping in my 427sbc about 550+HP

Looking for some new bucket seats too...not sure if I want something like a Procar seat or something outta a new car. Im STOKED!

Congrats! Enjoy! You might want to hang on to that 350 and make it a 383 stroker for another option in case that 427 self destructs?

Other than an engine bay complete detailing, there doesn't appear much to do! Double check real close the rear window corners for rust. Put it on a rack and check it out good, especially the brakes.

Enjoy!

Not worried about the engines...My boss writes it off and I get it for free and built by a very well recognized and respected builder.:D Definitley throwing it on the rack and doing a full safety check, change all the fluids and checkin for rust is a good idea at the same time. Thanks! Interior needs to be cleaned and thats about it along with the engine comp.

So what's the story on the small block 427?

A friend of mine has a 400 small block and he says some people stroke them out to a 427? Don't they have some cooling issues?

Will this be a street AND strip car?

Some will do it with an OE 400sbc, but I will be using a DART block. The cooling issues is just a myth. It was due to mis matched components and poor head work that the 400ci gm engines got that reputation.

This will be a street/strip/daily driver car. I live 2 miles from work, so its not bad and I dont have to worry about the cost of gas being that close.
