Charged battery up three day's in a row and with-in 24 hrs it's dead.I only have three items that have power at all times(1) is electric fan with relay
(2)nitrous and transbrake which are tied into each with a nx 60 amp relay to stop the nitrous from coming on at WOT untill transbrake is button is released.
(3) wire from battery to ALT.Yesterady I charged battery up and unhooked the hot wire going to the nitrous and tranbrake thinking that was most likely my problem but got home today and the battery was dead.Battery and ALT are less than six months old.Could the ALT drain the battery just sitting there?I guess tonight I'll unhook the electric fan and see what happens when I return home on THRUSDAY PM. Pull the battery and alt to have tested????

THANKS,BILL

I have my alt wire hooked up to the battery side of the kill switch which is hot going to the alt at all times and was wondering should it be on the other side of the kill switch so it gets juice only when the kill switch is turned on?

Anybody got the answer for me?

THANKS,DRIVER

If there is a bad diode in the alternator it will drain the battery. Pull it off and have it checked. I would change the wiring also so there is nothing live when you turn off the kill switch. It is probably safer this way in case of an electrical short/fire you can kill juice to the whole car.

First, was the kill switch on or off? Do the drain test....
To test for the drain, disconnect any clocks and radio with memory, with the car off and everything turned off. disconnect a battery cable and connect a test light inline between the cable and the battery, with a drain the light will be lit. You need to make the light go out to find the drain. Disconnect things one at a time till the light goes out. First disconnect the alternator and voltage regulator plug, then fuses at the fuse box.

For the kill switch to be legal, keep it on the battery side of the switch.

I dont know what year car you have but if it has a external volt regulator I would check it out. I have had them go bad and cause battery drain. Their was usually visual damage to the circuitry of the regulator when I popped the cover off and looked it over. I replaced several after going to an electric fan.

UNDEES,do I do this test with the kill switch off? I unhooked my alt wire this morning before going to work and my battery still is charged.I put it on the non-battery side just to see what would happen. Also, do I do this test on the hot or neg side?I'll put the alt back on the battery side and see what happens. Also my battery shows it's not taking a full charge after having it on the charger all night. What ever is going it must have ruined my battery.
Maybe alt as well? Thanks Again,Bill

That was easy!! As soon as I unhook the alt wire the test light goes out.My question is what is causing my alt's to go out every six months along with the battery? What I did was to hook the alt wire back up on the battery side and the test light came back on so I then unhooked the nitrous and transbrake which is all one(light stayed on) I then tried the elec-fan and light stayed on but unhook the alt wire the test light goes out.

Could be anything from a cheap quality alternator or perhaps the way you have things wired, its burning out the diodes inside the alt. What kind of charging voltage were you getting at idle?

Volt's at idle was around 13.2.Alt was bought at jegs which I paid a pretty good price for it.I have to check but I think it was a 110 amp.The 1st time six months ago when it went out the crank pulley was to small which I changed that but was thinking maybe I need to slow the alt down as well and change out that pulley as well? Anyway,Thanks For All The Help.

Replaced alt and battery both was replaced at no cost.Relocated my electic fan relay from alt and relocated my nitrous hot wire from alt and now I have 13.5 from battery up to the alt.Let's see how long it will last this time???
Thanks for all the input.DRIVER

This is what I came up with.Battery tested(BAD) Alt tested(BAD).DIODE BAD
The bad diode is what was causing the battery draining. The battery went bad because probably was drained to much.

How were these wired before? Did you have these wired off the alternator?
