hey yall i have a 64 chevelle 300 i am planning on buyin a rebuild kit for the front end soon and i want to get a manual rack and pinion will a universal one from summit or jegs do the trick and will it work with the tie rods etc in the supllied front end kits?? thanks everyone justin
Do not buy a rack without doing some research.
You need to verify width from tie rod end to tie rod end.
You need to verify the length and taper of the tie rods; make sure they match the steering arms.
Make sure the rack steering sector will work with your frame and engine configuration. The angle of the steering column connection on the rack is important.
There is some adjustment in the tie rods so the width does not have to be exact.
If the rack does not come with tie rod ends, make sure you can get ends that match your steering arms and match the thread on the rack.
Unless someone makes a kit you will have to build mounting brackets for the rack. DON'T SKIMP ON THIS. The rack must be securily mounted.
This is not a trivial task. You life depends on it being done right.
