I'm assuming you have a standard points ignition system. Try running a test jumper wire from battery (+) to coil (+). Does the car continue to run after starting it? Don't leave that wire on there for a long time with the car not running.
If the car continues to run, you probably don't have voltage out of the resistor wire. Could be a blown IGN fuse.
