I have an internittent problem with my 65.

I just installed this motor and a hi tq starter.

It will start just fine at times and cranks good so the battery seems fine.
But from time to time it hits and it acts like possibly the bendix is not fully engaging.

I do not know if it could be in the ignition, if it is a bad starter or improperly shimmed.

It is an automatic trans with a neutral safety switch.

Any ideas?

TIA

dumb question...what's the bendix? I dont understand your description...does it click? whine? grind?

Maybe someone smarter than me will come by.:( I'll try in the meantime though...or you could get rid of the mini-torque like the other guy said.

just a click like it is hitting but not fully engaging.

I wonder about a flat spot on the armerture or shimming myself.

I am going to pull the starter and put my old one in and see what happens.

Thank you guys for your advice!
I greatly appreciate the help and direction.

Bendix...in the starter and is spring loaded to engage with the flywheel when the starter is engaged.
If it is bad it generally will spin like an electric motor.

It could also be a loose wire. Ocassionally your starter may not be getting the full voltage and this will cause this problem.
