I love those mid-70s a-body's!

I had a 77 Monte & a 76 Grand Prix SJ. Two of the smoothest riding cars I've ever owned. That GP was particularly sweet; 400/TH400, buckets, cruise, tilt, factory gauges, am/fm, pw, pdl, etc. I put 40k miles on that baby in the mid 90s. I paid $500 for it. Too bad the body began rotting off the frame. :(

My 2011 collector car price guide says your car in no.3 condition which is about where yours lands IMO, should be $2,570.
That's laughable.

I'm sure my '67 300 in project condition would book for $1000. Doesn't mean a thing when it comes to collector's insurance.

Tom,another unique car from your collection, did your insurance agent want a certified apprasial or yours? I thought if you put a stated value that is what you got and I am with Rambo as for the dollar amount for this car. I did not know that Olds had this unique car.I know you have your answer but had to add my two cents.

Geno,
In '01 I used it to tow the 70 to CB01 from Okla, 65-70mph all the way with the cruise set (see picture above). That 455 just ran smooth as silk.

Nope, the last year for a 4sp in a Cutlass was 73.
Here's the original papers with my name, and pg18 of the 1976 Owners manual.
In 1976, there were 59,179 Cutlass S models built. Of those, 964 got a 5sp.
There were 186,646 Cutlass Supremes and 862 got a 5sp.
Huh. Neat car, for sure.

A customer was bringing it over for me to work on the fuel injection.
"Customer"? I thought you retired!! If word starts getting around how talented you are with anything mechanical, you'll be bombarded with service requests! Then you'll need a new shop and your second career will be off and running - and no time to do anything you want to do! :D:thumbsup:

I dont know about some of these numbers others are throwing around, but I am finalizing a deal right now on a 73 442 that is a 455 4 spd car. Its in much rougher condition than Toms is for sure, but I will be getting it for about $2000. The car needs paint but the panels are solid, floor and trunk is solid, interior needs to be redone and the engine and trans are fine. Needs lots of little finishing details on it as well. I will be going through suspension and brakes on it also.

I had a 1973 442 many years ago and never fell out of love with that car, and when I found this one on a hunting trip, it got the gears turning.

anyone know why the difference in the nose on these cars...is it just the difference between an "S" and a "Supreme" here's a 76 I had....and really wish I kept it, brought a beautiful rust free, strong running Az car back to CT and then sold it.:clonk:
Anyway...anybody know for sure on the noses ?

Thats a good question, I think it was the same just like in 72. They had the fastback look or the one that doesn't slope down. I think it might have been an option? I had a 72 cutlass supreme and didn't like it as much as the S. Cutlass' were good cars, I had a bunch of em.

Seb,
In 76, the S and 442 (SAME body) got the slanted grills. ALLLLLLLLL other 76's had the flat grill (notice the headlights are out even with the flat grill and recessed with the slanted grill).
In 77, ONLY the 442 got the slanted grill. The 77 S had the flat grill same as the Supreme.

From the top of the windshield all the way back, the roof of an S (442) and the Supreme roof/rear window/door window are totally different. The B pillar of the S and 442 have more of a forward slant than the B pillar of the Supreme. Thus, the door glass and the weather strip for the glass of an S/442 is completely different than for a Supreme. And of course, the quarter windows are totally different as well as the rear glass. Back then, the S body was more aerodynamic than the Supreme body and it was used in NASCAR racing. Cale Yarborough(78), Richard Petty(79), Dale Earnhardt(80) won champinoships with this body.

Andy,
I've been doing this stuff on the side for 40+yrs. Now that I'm retired, I'll probably be doing more.
I just finished 2 Muncies.

By the way, are you going to make it to CB12??????????

Right now, I'm in the middle of restoring/rebuilding a fuel injection/distributor for a 60 Vette.

And from the looks of things you're out of room already!! LOL!! I'm not surprised you have regular customers!

No CB this year either. One day I'll make it back. Still fighting the school year vs the event date.

Lots happening on the home front this year. Our second grandchild is due next Friday, 3/2 and our daughter is getting married July 14th. Baby belongs to Mike and his wife - not the daughter! ;)

I think if you were trying to sell it you would be lucky to get 12K. That said; try finding one like yours for that price.
For insurance purposes I would not want less than 20 and preferrably 30K. Through collector car insurance you can insure if for full coverage with no deductible for less than $300 a year.

Interesting car, Tom.....one of only a handful I've ever seen or heard of. I always had an interest in them because I ordered a 75 or 76 (can't remember which year it was, most likely a 76) Cutlass Salon with the 260/5 spd combo. Never got it.....the dealer just kept giving me excuses as to why it wasn't being built. I gave up and bought a new pickup truck instead.

Bill,
Must have been 76, because if you ordered a 5sp in a Cutlass, 76 was the FIRST year-------------and 79 was the last year.
Also, 76 was the LAST year for a 455 (403 was the biggest in 77).
Soooooooooooo, even though my 455-5sp combo was NOT available, each one was actually available (Turbo 400 was the only tranny available with a 455).
Alum manifolds are available for the Olds 400/455, but I would REALLY love to run across a GENUINE alum intake for an Olds 400 or 455. As far as I know, ONLY the W30 engines got the alum manifold.
